Lawrence Wilson Rourke – Tybee Island - Larry Rourke, age 82, passed away in the arms of his loving wife on Monday, December 12, 2022, at Sunabella Memory Care in Savannah under the care of Hospice Savannah. Mr. Rourke was born in Charleston, South Carolina on May 20, 1940, to the late Elizabeth Albertha Droppert and Ervin Wilson Rourk. He grew up in North Charleston and graduated from Bishop England High School. He is preceded in death by his parents, C.E. Poole (stepfather), brothers Carl E. Poole, Jr. and Ernest Poole, nephew Lawrence P. Rourke. He is survived by Janet Rourke, his wife of 47 years, son Tracy Lawrence Rourke (Allyson Joye), grandchildren Emma Rourke and Joshua Rourke, brother John E. Rourke (Iris), nieces and nephews. Larry was proud to be a Clemson University graduate (’63) in entomology. He joined Chevron Chemical Company (Ag) early in his career. He traveled internationally and lived abroad helping improve the nutrition, health and economy of people in many countries worldwide. He retired from Chevron in 1990 and moved back to the South to boat, fish, shrimp and crab. Tybee Island became home. He volunteered with SeniorNet, taught boating safety courses with the Tybee Light Power Squadron, grew day lilies , and, of course, loved ballroom dancing. There will be a celebration of his life on Saturday, January 14 from 2 to 4 pm at Fox and Weeks Islands Chapel (highway 80 east). In lieu of flowers please make donations in memory of Larry to Hospice Savannah or a favorite charity. Go Tigers and always Dance to the music.
