Celebrating the life of

Betty Kipp

Passed away on December 26, 2022

Betty Kipp

Betty Kipp, a longtime resident of The Landings on Skidaway Island who was known for her quick wit, died on December 26 in Savannah with her family by her side, following complications from a fall.  She was 84.

Mrs. Kipp was born in Michigan and raised in Birmingham, a suburb of Detroit, where she graduated from Birmingham High School. She received her BA in sociology and was president of her class at Western College for Women, which is now part of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

After meeting in high school, Betty married Donald Kipp in 1960 and lived in Birmingham and Glenview, Ill, moving to Chatham, New Jersey in 1967 where they raised their two children Stephen and Cynthia.

While living in New Jersey, Mrs. Kipp ran her own catering business and later sold homes for Burgdorff Realtors in Chatham.

She was married for nearly 60 years. When Mr. Kipp retired in 2000 after a long career as a CPA, they moved to The Landings where Mrs. Kipp enjoyed playing golf and bridge. Later, as they entered their 80s, they moved to The Marshes of Skidaway, an independent living retirement community. Mr. Kipp eventually passed away in December 2020.

Mrs. Kipp loved to read, try new restaurants, spend time at the beach, travel to new places and laugh with her friends, especially with a tight group of women who had remained close friends since junior high school in Birmingham.

She is survived by her children, Stephen Kipp of Seattle, Washington, Cynthia Lembree of Claremont, NH, three grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A Memorial Service will be held in the spring at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Skidaway Island United Methodist Church.
