Erlene Stokes Halstead

Erlene Stokes Halstead, 91, died peacefully on Thursday, October 13, 2022.

The Grady County, GA native was a longtime resident of Savannah and Midway. Erlene was born on September 29, 1931 to the late John William and Ester Mills Stokes. She married the late Hersel Lamar Halstead in 1949. Erlene retired as a nurse in 1960 from Liberty County Mental Health after more than 19 years of service. She enjoyed reading, fishing, and traveling; however, Erlene’s passion was spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Erlene was predeceased by two sons, John Lamar Halstead and Roger Alan Halstead and a daughter, Diane Halstead. She leaves behind a daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Jerry Case of Savannah; two granddaughters, Laura Case Wiley (Matt) of Pinehurst, NC, and Carla Case McCorvey (David) of Savannah; four great-grandchildren, Cameron, Grant, Amelia, and Carson; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2:45 p.m. on Monday, October 17, 2022 in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest you consider a donation in Erlene’s memory to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.
