Celebrating the life of

Sharon Embrey Weeks

April 10, 1952 - October 12, 2022

Sharon Embrey Weeks

Sharon Embrey Weeks died peacefully at her home surrounded by her loved ones on October 12, 2022 after a valiant and unyielding battle with cancer.

Born April 10, 1952 to Charles S. and Jacqueline Embrey, Sharon was a powerful woman whose robust intellect and indomitable spirit allowed her to approach life on her own terms as a mother, a wife, a leader in the community and a powerful advocate for innovative progress in cancer treatment.

Although diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2010, Sharon refused to let her diagnosis define her. She fought ferociously against the disease, challenging conventional wisdom, seeking alternative treatments and rejecting the concept that she could be defeated. She continued to live vivaciously while embracing a proactive approach to recovery that combined traditional treatment with holistic healing methods and enabled her to persistently beat the odds of her prognosis for more than a decade.

Throughout her life, her family was the primary focus of her life. Although her family moved often, living in 12 different cities, they always found their way back to Tybee Island during the summer for family vacations. Her sisters, Linda, Charlene, Vickie and Trina, were also her best friends, and her devotion to her husband, Steve, and her children, Scott and Stacy, was evident in every decision she made.

She excelled in everything she chose to do, winning numerous awards in bowling, golf and tennis before discovering an unparalleled passion for shooting and hunting. She was a decorated sporting clays shooter, and she proudly displayed the trophies from her hunts in her home, including a wild boar that hung above the fireplace as a reminder of one of her numerous victories.

Sharon was also an influential force in the community, most notably being honored as the 2017 Cancer Survivor by Candler Clays for her outspoken support of cancer survivors and their bravery. She was also a sustaining member of the Junior League of Savannah and lent her voice and considerable influence to many other causes throughout her life.

During the last few years of her life, Sharon was an active member of the Lowcountry Annie Oakleys, a group of dedicated women who promote women’s clay shooting and support area charities through tournaments and benefits. Her affiliation with the club introduced her to some of the most important friends in her life.

She lived with a curiosity that introduced her to new friends and new ideas throughout her life, and she cherished those relationships that brought so much meaning and love to her life. She remained grateful for every conversation and every interaction during her journey, and she retained an avid interest in learning new things as long as she lived.

Predeceased by her parents, Sharon is survived by her husband, Stephen E. Weeks, Jr., her children, Scott E. Weeks and Stacy Weeks Dixon (David Dixon), stepson Stephen E. Weeks, III (Ruth), sisters Linda Smith (Gary), Charlene Burns, Vickie Conneff (Larry) and Trina Embrey, grandchildren Lanora Grace Phillips, Margaret Elizabeth Weeks, Stephen E. Weeks, IV, Hugh Traver Weeks, Weeks Lanier Dixon, Embrey Jacqueline Dixon and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family extends sincere appreciation for the tireless care provided by Sharon’s primary oncologist, Dr. George Negrea and the entire staff at Lowcountry Cancer Care as well as all of the medical staff from Sloan Kettering Institute in New York, and the compassionate care provided by Comfort Keepers of Savannah and Compassus Hospice Care.

A graveside service will be conducted in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery on Saturday October 15, 2022 at 11 am. Following the service, a reception for family, friends and loved ones will be announced.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable donations be made to the Sharon Weeks Scholarship Fund benefiting junior female shooters at P.O. Box 13231, Savannah, GA 31416.

One of my favorite people since way back in the 1980’s during our ladies team tennis days. Always smiling and happy and I absolutely loved the way she kept Steve in line with her “vocal corrections” for lack of a better term. Lol. I adored her and her family and my heart goes out to them. Love, Alice Carlyle ❤️

Sharon was one of my favorite clients at IVM. Every time I saw her with the pups, I would always run to her in excitement and we would have conversations to the point where someone had to come steal me away from her. She reminded me of my mother. Even when she had to fight again, I called her occasionally just to check in and say hi. She truly was something special and I am glad I got to know her. Keeping her family in my thoughts.
