Celebrating the life of
Pamela Nesbit-Ferris
Passed away on September 15, 2022
Pamela Claire Nesbit-Ferris, 63, died Thursday, September 15, 2022, following complications from a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born in Savannah, Georgia, on October 12, 1958, to Emmett and Florence Nesbit, and lived most of her life in her beautiful hometown. Pam was a graduate of Jenkins High School, and later graduated from Armstrong State College, where she met her future husband, Charles Ferris. They married on June 19, 1982, and had two sons together, Walker and Garrison. Pam was employed for three years as a middle and high school teacher, while also, and subsequently, working in catering and food service with her father and other family members for a multitude of concerts at the Savannah Civic Center, for innumerable baseball games at Grayson Stadium, and for many events at other venues around Savannah. As her family grew, her skills transitioned to providing food for her children’s school and Scouting events, and for large holiday gatherings and other family occasions.
Pam was a loving mother, wife, and friend, and was particularly fond of all sorts of animals. She expended tremendous time and energy in rescuing and caring for countless creatures, looking after a menagerie of rabbits, mice, rats, hamsters, gerbils, a dog, a chinchilla, and, especially, cats, all of which she cherished. Many of the cats she rescued are still with her family. Halloween was her favorite holiday; she spent weeks each October decorating her house and yard. Pam designed and made new costumes every year for her family, including her parents, and even her grandmother, who wore them to the Halloween parties she hosted for almost two decades. Her talents extended to making costumes for numerous other events, and to helping with set design and wardrobe for multiple plays at her children's school. She loved being in the sun and on the water, frequently helping at practices for her sons’ rowing team, and providing and coordinating the food service at their regattas. As a friend put it, her war cry urging on rowers during the races “could probably be heard in the next county.”
Pam was creative, vibrant, quirky, strong willed, entertaining, and very funny, full of life and energy, a pleasure to be with. She is remembered fondly and with great love by her husband, Charles Ferris, her sons, Walker Ferris and Garrison Ferris, her brother, Garry Nesbit, and her uncle, John Kerves, as well as by multiple cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.
