Margian Dixon “Margie” Ellington, passed away at the age of 83, Friday, April 27, 2018, at her residence surrounded by her family.   She was born in Aline, GA to Alva Lee and Nancy Grace Dixon. She spent most of her life in Savannah and was deeply loved by her family and friends. She and her husband, James T. Ellington, were married in 1962. In the early years of their marriage, she worked for Dr. Harold Black, D.D.S. as a Dental Assistant. In 1972, she and her husband opened Dutchtown Children’s Center. Margie devoted many years to helping and loving the children who were left in her care.

Margie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all. In her free time, Margie enjoyed gardening and going to the beach. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her loved ones. She made a difference in the lives of everyone who knew her and will be truly missed.

Margie was a Baptist and had a strong Christian faith. However, she was unable to attend church in her latter years due to her health.

She is survived by her husband, James T. Ellington, five daughters, Claudia Young, Gilda Bass (Bobby), Gail Lachapelle (Bubba), Susan Darieng, and Lawanna Lewis (Danny), two sons, Randy Tyler, Dean Tyler (Teresa), one sister, Alva Aliffi (Tony), one brother, Bobby Dixon (Shirley). She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 30, 2018 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery on Little Neck Road.

Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Kindred Hospice.
