Larry Gene Franklin

Larry Gene Franklin

Larry Gene Franklin, age 85, passed away September 1, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.  He was born in Old Mission Peninsula, Michigan and was raised in Traverse City, Michigan.  He was a 1955 graduate of Traverse City High School.

He served four years in the Air Force and was stationed at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia where he met his future wife, Gwen Strickland, and made Savannah his home.  He was recalled during the Cuban Crisis and was sent to France with the National Guard as a weapons specialist.

He was employed by Victory Motors Mercedes Benz dealership and in 1973 was selected as technician of the year for the east coast.  This honor was from customer referrals and he continued to work for the Dale Critz dealership.  In 1978, he formed his own Mercedes repair shop, Trouble Shooters of Savannah.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Virginia Franklin and sister, Marilyn Pearson.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Gwen Strickland Franklin of Savannah; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Linda Franklin and Dana and Tiffany Franklin; five grandchildren, Eric, Kevin, Alexandra, Morgan, and Caroline; several cousins; and a niece and nephew.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2022 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 8 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
