Olive Kale (Walker) Dixon

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Olive K. Dixon, our loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all whose lives she touched. She passed away peacefully, at the age of 96, on August 18, 2022 in Savannah, Georgia.

Olive, the daughter of Rev. R. C. and Maxie Kale, was born in Highlands, NC, raised in Daisy, GA and graduated from Claxton high school in Claxton, GA.  She worked as the office manager for Lesser’s Men’s Quality Shop before accepting employment with the Chatham County DMV, a position from which she retired.  Olive was an avid reader and loved to stay up on current events. She was active in her community, especially with the American Legion Post 135 Auxiliary, NARFE Savannah Chapter 249 and the Windsor Forest Golden Age Center. She was also a lifetime member of the Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority and enjoyed volunteering at St. Joseph’s Hospital gift shop.  She was a long-time member of Grace United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her three children:  Patricia (Bart) Picasso, Ben (Betsy) Walker, and Saralyn Walker, all of whom reside in Savannah.  She was especially proud of her grandchildren Ashli Picasso (Jerry) La Cross, Kale Walker, Olivia Walker and two great-grandsons Jerry (Samantha) La Cross and Harrison La Cross.  She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

A funeral service will be held at Fox & Weeks Funeral Home, 7200 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA on Friday, August 26, 2022. Visitation will be at 10am with the Memorial Service to follow at 11am.  Interment will be at Bonaventure Cemetery, immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Savannah www.hospicesavannah.org are welcome.

To Patricia, Benny, and Saralyn, I am so very sorry to hear of your mother's passing. She was a very special person to me growing up. She was always kind, fair, and ALWAYS let us have fun! I loved every minute of being around her and spending so many nights over at the house as well as when we started getting older. She was so good at treating us like we were full fledged adults.
