Celebrating the life of

Bonnie Ann Boykin Sessums

February 09, 1947 - August 09, 2022

Bonnie Ann Boykin Sessums

Bonnie Boykin Sessums, 75, passed away peacefully August 9, 2022, at Candler Hospital with family by her side. She was born February 9, 1947, in Savannah, Georgia, to Geraldine and Roscoe “Bus” Boykin. She attended Savannah High School and graduated in 1964. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by the love of her life, Bill Sessums.

Bonnie loved everything Disney, especially Mickey Mouse, and going to Disney World. She loved playing cards with her friends and family, was an avid reader and baked the best Christmas cookies. She loved watching Duke basketball and rarely missed a game. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she helped found the church library and served on church council. She loved her church family. Most of all, she cherished being a mom and being Grammy to her precious grandchildren.

Nothing was more special to her than her family. She is survived by her daughter, Kelley Cooper Cale (Alan), and her son, Cliff Cooper, and her grandchildren Katey Cale, Carson Cale, Owen Cooper, and Callie Cooper. Also surviving are her sister, Linda Marshall (John), and brother John Boykin (Nancy), nephews Scott Marshall (Amy), Danny Boykin (Kari), Ross Boykin and Ben Boykin, great niece Scottie Marshall Thrash (Stewart) and great nephew Mac Marshall. Close family members Marion, Judi, and Lauren Cooper also held a big piece of her heart. She was blessed to also have her “bonus” Sessums family that she loved so much: Sharon, David, Tracy, and Linda, and their children and grandchildren.

She also leaves behind special friend Bill Bazemore and many, many friends in Pinehurst, Durham, and Savannah. She was loved by everyone who knew her and immediately gave a big hug to anyone she met.

Visitation will be Friday August 12, 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fox and Weeks on Hodgson Memorial. Service will be Saturday August 13 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on W. 31st Street.

Remembrances may be made to crohnscolitisfoundation.org or to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
