Please click here to view the Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Anne Blanco. The livestream will begin at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2022.

SAVANNAH – Anne Sheehan Blanco passed away August 8, 2022, at home surrounded by her children and grandchildren after a short battle with cancer.  She was born to Joseph and Valerie Sheehan on July 24, 1943 in Savannah, Georgia.  She attended Blessed Sacrament School (‘57) and St. Vincent’s Academy (‘61) where she served as that school’s first president of the student council.  She received an Associate in Arts Degree from Armstrong College of Savannah in 1963 and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Georgia in 1965.

In addition to being devoted to her family, whom she served at every stage of life,  Anne was a teacher.  She taught in the inaugural year of Head Start in Savannah and at Heard Elementary School in the late 60s.  She then taught fourth grade at St. James Catholic School in the 80s and 90s.  She took great joy in nurturing each of her students and watching them grow and develop.    After she retired from teaching, she became a residential real estate agent.  Her primary mission in retirement was being a grandmother.  Having been named after the grandmother of Jesus, she cherished her role in the lives of each of her ten grandchildren.  She travelled to all ten of her grandchildren’s births and remained a huge part of their lives.  She focused on ensuring she had a unique relationship with each of them and that they knew that they were loved.  They knew and they adored her.

Anne was a member of St. James Catholic Church until moving to Tybee Island where she joined St. Michael’s Catholic Church.  She served many roles in both parishes including director of the parish school of religion at St. James and president of the parish council at St. Michael’s.  In recognition and appreciation for her outstanding contribution to the life and work of the Catholic Church in South Georgia, she received the Bishop Gartland Service Award in November 2017.

She is survived by her daughter Maria, Maria’s husband Lawrence Katz, their children Joseph, Lawson and Timothy of Birmingham, AL; son Joseph, his wife Lisa Read Blanco, their children David, Jeb and Read Elizabeth of Atlanta, GA; daughter Angela, Angela’s husband Jeffrey Mandel, their children Carmen and Anne of Savannah; son Timothy, his wife Alisa Henning Blanco and their children Finn and Everett of Savannah.  She is also survived by her sister, Sr. Lourdes Sheehan, RSM of Savannah, and sister-in-law Elizabeth Mock Sheehan of Savannah, niece Elizabeth Hamrick, nephew Thomas Sheehan, Jr., and niece Lollie Niemeyer and their spouses and children.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years Odilo Blanco, her parents, Joseph D. and Valerie Sheehan, her infant daughter Theresa Anne Blanco and her brother Thomas J. Sheehan, Sr.

The visitation will be from 4-7 PM Friday, August 12, 2022 at Fox & Weeks funeral home on Hodgson Memorial Drive with a vigil service beginning at 6:00 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.  A private burial will be at the Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Raymond S. Blanco, Jr., James C. Hamrick, Sr., James C. Hamrick, Jr., Timothy P. Mahoney, David E. Miller, Gregory P. Miller, Chris J. Miller, Kurt A. Niemeyer, Brendan T. Sheehan, Eamon S. Sheehan, Kevin L. Sheehan, Leo K. Sheehan, Timothy Sheehan, Thomas J. Sheehan, Jr., and Thomas J. Sheehan, III.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church (802 Lovell Ave Tybee Island, GA 31328), St. Vincent’s Academy (207 East Liberty Street Savannah, GA 31401) or Alabama Hands & Voices (P.O. Box 130627 Birmingham, AL 35213).

- Richard &Anita Morgan , Savannah , Ga.

Joseph, Tim, et al My most vivid memory of your Mom is her, my little brother Steve and me (age 10-11?) trying to run barefoot across the hot tar of Butler Ave. and the sticker-patch of the old Tybee RR bed to get a soda at Mike Hosti’s Tybee Mkt.! It took “a real man” and she was one of “the boys” of my Tybee Summers growing up; just like Isaac, the vegetable man. We remembered those days many years later at a dinner with Herbie O’K., Kay and your Mom and Dad at the new Booker Tybee House. My sincerest condolences to you and all; She was quite The Lady; even if she was One of The Boys. Randy Booker, Sr. Tybee

I was so very sorry to hear of Anne's death. She was a good friend from our early teenage years. I fondly remember times as a young girl being with Anne and her family, going to Church on a Sunday morning and then to Gottlieb's Bakery or to Johnny Harris on a Friday night for fried chicken. Odilo couldn't have been a better match for Anne. She loved him dearly. They were a very happy couple and raised a beautiful family together. I am truly sorry for your loss. She will be missed by so many.

May Anne rest in peace with her beloved Odilo. To all of the children and grandchildren: There are few people I have met in my lifetime that I respect as much as Anne and Odilo. Odilo gave me my first job and I worked with him for the first 6 years of my 25 with Savannah Sugar. Anne asked me when we met how I liked working with Odilo. I told her it was hard to understand what he was saying sometimes. She laughed and said most people thought so. Anne was such a kind, gracious and authentic lady. She loved her Lord, her Family and her Church. God bless the Family. I know He blessed Anne.

- McCorkle, Savannah, GA
