Celebrating the life of

Gary James Beasley

August 14, 1947 - July 21, 2022

Gary James Beasley

Gary James Beasley was born on August 14, 1947 to the late Mildred Elise Boykin Beasley and Harley Oren Beasley in Savannah, GA.  He received his early education in the Savannah Chatham County Public School System and graduated from Jenkins High School. Upon graduating, Gary attended Armstrong State College until his enlistment in the US Naval Reserve (USNR-R) in 1968. He served in the Navy until April 1973.  After completing his military service, Gary returned to Armstrong State College and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting.  In 1973, he went to work for a public accounting firm in Savannah and remained with the firm until establishing, in July 1986, with Robert Fennell, his business partner, the CPA firm Fennell & Beasley, LLC where he continued to serve the public accounting needs of clients until his retirement in January 2022.

In 1980, Gary married Pamela E. Stevenson and they remained happily married until his passing over 41 years later. Throughout Gary’s life his passion for sports (college bowling league, softball and golfing) held a significant importance in his life.  The many long friendships that he developed through these activities have remained as major factors in his life.  In later years, Gary could always be found playing golf at the various clubs that he belonged to in Georgia and North Carolina.

Gary passed away at the age of 74 after a long battle with cancer with his wife, Pamela, by his side. Gary leaves behind to cherish his memory: his wife, Pamela E. Stevenson; two brothers and their wives, Larry and Kim Beasley, and Tim and Susan Beasley; two nephews, Matthew Beasley and his wife, Ashley, and Lucas Beasley; goddaughter, Hayley Alexis Giannuzzi; along with several cousins, lifelong friends and his beloved pets Little Bit, Nickie and Maggie Mae that will dearly miss him.

Per his wishes, simple outside services will be held at the Trinity Mausoleum at Hillcrest Abbey East at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 3, 2022.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31406 and/or Coastal Pet Rescue, 7430 Thomas Avenue, Savannah, GA 31406.

We would like to extend our appreciation to all of the physicians and staff at Summit Cancer Care, J.C Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion, Winship Cancer Institute at Emory University, and Hospice Savannah for their care and assistance during this time.

I loved working with Gary, he truly taught me so much. I really appreciated the time he spent helping me and all of his encouragement (however frustrating it probably was!). I hope that you both were able to spend some part of his retirement doing things that you loved together. He was wonderful and will be missed.

I met Gary in 1981 when he was doing accounting for my employer. Later, he was my personal accountant for many years until he retired. Though I only knew him in a business setting, I considered him a friend. He was one of those rare people who you could always count on to do what he said he would do. A straight shooter who valued doing the right thing. I'm sorry, Pam and family, for your loss. The world needs more Gary Beasleys!
