Celebrating the life of

Thomas William Herrmann

December 04, 1950 - May 21, 2022

Thomas William Herrmann

Thomas (Tommy) Herrmann, met his Savior face to face in the early morning of May 21, 2022, after a four year battle with a traumatic brain injury due to Listeria bacterial meningitis.  His journey was a hard one, but Christ always met his needs.

There to meet Tom with open arms were his parents, Bill and Mary Louise, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Herrmann and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Crump, two nephews, Wes Herrmann and Officer Duane Kirby, his best friend, Kenny Hayes and of course all of his fur babies, Paco, Cephus, Hank and Hunter.

Tom was a long-time resident of Skidaway Island.  He was born in Fresno, CA on December 4, 1950. He spent his early childhood in Sandy Springs, GA, graduating from North Springs High School.  His college years were spent in Hiawassee, GA, graduating from Young Harris College (KTO fraternity).  Tom spent four years in the Air Force before taking a job with E.I. DuPont. When he retired from DuPont, he went back to college, earning a degree in Architectural Landscape.  Most will remember him as owner and operator of “ Classic Landscape and Design” on Skidaway for over 15 years.  Upon selling that business, he went to the oil fields of North Dakota for two years to manage Legendary Field Services for his nephew, Wes.  Tom returned to Skidaway Island taking a job with Carefree Boat Club, having received his Captain’s license years before.

Tom loved being outdoors….he was one with nature. His love for backpacking and fly fishing took him many miles on the Appalachian Trail, parts of Europe, Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Wyoming.

Tom ran in 26 consecutive Peachtree Road Races in Atlanta, and competed in several Triathlons.  His favorite sports were tennis, baseball and football (Go Dawgs)

Joining Tommy later will be his wife of 36 years, Patsy, son, Kelly (Artia), brother, Chuck (Ann), niece, Reagan(Tom) Anders and Ava Nilsson, and his grandchildren, Arianna, Adrien and Austin.

Our family would like to extend a “thank you with love” to the ladies who were so diligent in caring for Tommy: Janice Shelton, Elizabeth Taylor Kelly, Mona Dukes and Cynthia Holmes. We are also so grateful to the many therapists who helped Tommy overcome many limitations, and to all family and friends who kept us in prayer and stood by us through this journey.

A celebration of Tommy’s life will be heldat 2:00 p.m. on August 20, 2022 at Compassion Christian Church, East Campus. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you plant a tree, support TROUT (at trout@tu.org PO Box 7400 Wooly Bugger, WV 25438-7400) to keep our streams clean, or donate to Abilities Unlimited, PO Box 14041 Savannah, Ga 31416 an organization that does physical training for all who have disabilities or limitations ( Tommy’s favorite place to workout).
