Chauncey C.J. Stickle

Chauncey Jerome Stickle III, 78, passed away July 11, 2022.  The Savannah native was born January 8, 1944, to Chauncey and Katharine Hohenstein Stickle.

CJ graduated from Sacred Heart and Benedictine of Savannah.  He attended the University of Miami and Dekalb Junior College.  He held various operation positions with Standard Oil of Kentucky (Chevron) between 1966 and 1974, and then spent 19 years working as a Checker Foreman for the Georgia Ports Authority.  CJ started and operated Stickle’s Courier Service from 1995 to 2013.

CJ spent 20 years of service in the Georgia National Guard and retired as a Master Sergeant.  He was active in many organizations, such as: Knights of Columbus Council 5588, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee & Adjutant Staff, Knights of Columbus 631, The Hibernian Society, the Irish Heritage Society, and the Catholic War Veterans.  He enjoyed football and coached Little League for several years, as well as fishing and shrimping at his river house in Harris Neck, Georgia.

CJ met Linda Rae Elliott in Atlanta, September of 1966, and married her in March of 1967 at St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church in Decatur, Georgia.  He is survived by his wife, Linda, as well as their two children, Katharine Howard and Sean Patrick Stickle (Jenny); their grandchildren, Trent, Hannah, Abby, and Nathan Stickle, and Ashleigh and Brianna Howard.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2022, at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist with burial at Bonaventure Cemetery.
