Celebrating the life of

Anne Barre Thomas

October 31, 1944 - June 22, 2022

Anne Barre Thomas

Anne Barre Thomas died on Wednesday, June 22, 2022.

Born at Telfair Hospital in Savannah, Georgia, Anne was the fourth child of the late Jesse W. & Elizabeth Cannon Barre. She grew up in Nathaniel Greene Villa and attended Charles Ellis and Jacob Smith Schools. She graduated from Savannah High School and attended Armstrong College. In 1970, she married the love of her life, Roy Griffin Thomas, Sr. Together, they owned and operated Solomons Pharmacy in downtown Savannah and started a family. Anne enjoyed entertaining, gardening, and volunteering. She loved to celebrate every holiday (especially Halloween, the day of her birth) with elaborate decorations and festivities. Throughout her life, she was committed to many civic, benevolent, and religious causes. She was a devoted caregiver to her children, husband, parents, and several other family members. From an early age, Anne had beautiful and distinctive penmanship, and she was a self-taught calligrapher. Over the years, legion newly engaged couples sought her out for advice and to address their wedding invitations.

Anne was predeceased by her parents and husband. She is survived by her sons and their families -- R. Griffin Thomas, Jr. of Boston, MA and his husband David Naimark; J. Barre Thomas of Savannah, his wife Jennifer Rochester Thomas, and their children Elizabeth, Evelyn,  and Cannon.

Anne is also survived by her siblings -- J. David Barre of Pooler, Jerry W. Barre of Lawrenceville, Martha Barre Smith of Pooler, and Susan Barre Griffin of Mt. Airy -- her sister-in-law Patricia Lawther Thomas of Columbia, SC, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
