Carolyn Rose Oertel, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 15. Carolyn, the daughter of Frank and Evelyn Thompson, was born on October 26, 1939 in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from Loretto Heights College in Denver, Colorado. 

Carolyn, the anchor of her close-knit family, was a dedicated and loving mother, wife, grandmother, and best friend to many. She always believed in putting her kids, grandchildren and her husband's needs before her own. She loved spending time with her husband and family, whether it be at the Jersey Shore, Lake Michigan or enjoying the many activities at The Landings. Carolyn loved her family's dogs, enjoyed playing golf with her husband and friends, and was an avid bridge player. She loved socializing with the many friends that she made at The Landings. Over the years, you could find Carolyn volunteering at schools, hospitals, and local organizations.

In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, J. Curtice Oertel of 57 years, and survived by daughters, Cynthia Ann Oertel of New York City, NY; Kara Elizabeth Oertel of Hilton Head Island, SC; son, Christian John and his wife, Elizabeth Oertel, and two grandsons, John "Buzz" and Oliver Oertel, of Denver, CO. 

A private family memorial service will be held at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
