James A. Smith

Passed away on May 01, 2022

James A. Smith

James A. Smith, 85, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at his residence.  He was born in Savannah, son of Hoke and Beryl Bostwick Smith. 

Mr. Smith was a graduate of Commercial High School and a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict.  After the war, he joined Western Electric and retired from AT&T after many years of service..  Mr. Smith was an avid golfer, an assist pro at Savannah Country Club and was a Caddy for Gene Sauers.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Paulina E. Smith of Tybee Island; two sisters, Suzanne and Tinka of Theodore, AL; two nephews and one niece.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.

Helen and I remember a kind and gentle man who always had nice things to say about everyone he met. I enjoyed many rounds of golf out at the old "Sav Inn" with Jim and will never forget his gentle way of life. He will be missed.
