Celebrating the life of

Patrick Joseph O’Connor, Sr.

June 21, 1956 - April 25, 2022

Patrick Joseph O’Connor, Sr.

Patrick Joseph O’Connor Sr. died peacefully at home surrounded by family on April 25, 2022.

Patrick “Pat” was born on June 21,1956 in Pinckney Colony, SC to Daniel Joseph and Genevieve Pinckney O’Connor. Pat was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Christina and Ellen, and precious grandson, Patrick Joseph “Pate” O’Connor, III.

Pat was a proud graduate of Benedictine Military Academy class of 1974. He was a licensed electrician, a proud member of the IBEW and owner of O’Connor Electric. He was a member of The Hibernian Society of Savannah, The Quarterback Club of Savannah, Knights of Columbus Council 631, and past President of LaVida Country Club. Pat was an avid golfer and sports fanatic, and while both could be frustrating at times, his dedication to golf, the Atlanta Braves, Georgia Bulldogs and Benedictine Cadets could never be swayed.

A master of creative solutions and scenic routes, Pat was the person to call whether you needed no-nonsense advice, a dose of razor-sharp wit, or just to know the best hole in the wall place to grab lunch - and you better believe they would know and love Pat O’Connor wherever he sent you. His irresistible smile found him a friend everywhere he went, regardless of if they'd met that day or 30 years prior. Pat was an expert in Savannah history and could always tell you what used to be where and whose family owned it. He loved St. Patrick’s Day because it gave him the opportunity to combine his passions for family, friends, and heritage with his unique talent for socializing.

Pat is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Hambrick O’Connor; sons, Patrick Joseph O’Connor, Jr. (LeighAnne), Kevin Matthew O’Connor, Christopher Mark Fogarty (Caroline); daughter, Kason Leigh Fogarty, grandson William Pearson O’Connor, mother-in-law Anne Allen; brothers, Daniel, III (Jodie), Michael (Dee), Terrence (Donna) and sister, Maureen (Richard); godson, Vincent Sellers and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Pat valiantly fought cancer for 5 years, with a smile on his face and an attitude that was admired by all he met along the way! He was a fiercely loyal friend to so many and the best husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle in the world! His Catholic faith was an integral part of his life, growing up at Blessed Sacrament and as a communicant of Sacred Heart. Pat was happiest when surrounded by his family and especially his grandson, Pearson!

The family would like to express many thanks to the staff at Summit Cancer Care of Savannah, and to the devotion of Dr. Allison Spellman, Dr. Nicole Cohen and Dr. Michael Hassell, who fought tirelessly by his side.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 2, 2022 from 6:00-7:00 PM with the Rosary Service to follow. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at 11:00 AM. Both services will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 1707 Bull Street (33rd St). Burial will be held in Pinckney Colony Family Cemetery, Bluffton, SC.

In lieu of flowers or remembrances, please send donations to The American Cancer Society (P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123), Hospice Savannah (P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416), or the charity of your choice.

Pam and family, We are all sad for all of you and for us. Despite surviving our younger days, we all turned out pretty good! It’s hard to say goodbye to a best friend. Pat was awesome. A wonderful father, loyal, honest, smart and always a really great comeback! You had to have thick skin in this crowd! But it was always light hearted and his zingers were so good, I’d find myself thinking, man, I should have said this or that. I know he’s smiling down from Heaven but we sure am going to miss him here on Earth. May his memory be eternal
