Hugh G. Mahany, 79, passed away peacefully with his devoted wife, Jill, by his side following a long illness. Hugh was born September 27, 1942 to the late Daniel J. Mahany and Mary Louise Huggins. Hugh was a native of Tybee Island where he grew up, attending St. Michael’s School and later returned as a full-time resident.

Hugh spent his career in building construction and founded the Mahany Construction Co. in 1985 with his long-time business partner and dear friend, Vincent J. Ferraro, III. Thoughout his many years as a Savannah businessman, Hugh was known to be a “man of his word” and someone who truly values relationships. Outside of family and friends, Hugh was an avid fisherman and passionate about venturing out for both inshore and offshore fishing trips. His sense of humor, good nature, and charismatic personality will be sorely missed by his family and host of many friends. A special thanks to Dr. Dorsey Flanders for his support and always being available to Hugh.

Hugh was predeceased by his brother, Daniel. J. Mahany (“Captain”), first wife, Patty Price Mahany and son David Mahany.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jill; sons, Eddie (Angie) Mahany and Brian (Marie) Mahany; daughter, Tricia (Rick) Steinman; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and step-children, Jennifer Perry, Billy Perry and Allison Godfrey.

The visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church on Thursday, April 28, 2022 with burial immediately following at Greenwich Cemetery.

Jill , you & your family are in my prayers. The Mahany family in Newberg, Oregon are close friends. I am one month older than Hugh, so my heart goes out to you knowing that life is short for the present ; to be eternal in the future. We know death was never intended and will be reversed by means of the resurrection. We are so close to conditions being restored to the original paradise intended. We pray, for Christ’s Kingdom government to to come and restore perfect life for all obedient mankind. Isaiah 9:6,7 We have confidence that Hugh will answer when Jesus calls, Job 14:14.
