Melinda Gay Powell died Tuesday, March 29th under the care of Hospice Savannah with her husband at her side. She was 72 years old. Affectionally known as “Sweet Melinda”, her family and friends will gather to celebrate her life at 4 PM Saturday, April 2nd at the All Saints Episcopal Church on Tybee Island, Rev. Vicar June Johnson presiding, A reception of light refreshments will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.

Melinda was preceded in death by her parents. John Lawson Hulsey and Wessie Martin Hulsey. She is survived by her husband, Charles E. Powell, her son, Christopher Fruechte, her brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Elaine Hulsey, her niece Michelle Savage, her second family, Melissa Powell, Chip Powell and Bob Werblin, Timothy and Elizabeth Powell, and finally, her grandchildren, Lawson Fruechte, Amber Mathias, Caitlin Mathias and Vincent Holmes.

In lieu of flowers, Melinda asked that donations be made to her favorite charities, America’s Second Harvest Food Bank of Savannah and Hospice Savannah.

Melinda was a caring Nurse and Nurse Practitioner always giving care to others. She was loved by all who knew her, a love she returned manyfold. May Godspeed her on her journey home.
