Celebrating the life of

Missy Speer

April 04, 1969 - November 19, 2019

Missy Speer

MISSY SPEER, 50, died unexpectedly in her home on November 19, 2019.

Missy was born in Syracuse, New York to her parents, the late Thomas Kapcheck and Lori Sager. She was a graduate of Cicero-North Syracuse High School and attended Alfred State College in upstate New York. She later relocated to Savannah where she owned and operated a marketing and sales company.

Missy will be best remembered as a most loving and compassionate woman. With her heart of gold and infectious smile, Missy loved unconditionally. She dedicated herself selflessly to the health and happiness of her family and her community. Beyond the love and support she gave her family, Missy collected goods for the homeless and donated her time and talent as an amateur photographer to under-privileged families in the Savannah area. She held a firm belief that all lives should be full of joy.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Michael “Red” Speer, and her four cherished children; Corey O’Brien, Dylan O’Brien, Kyle O’Brien, and Scarlett Speer. Missy’s light and love will be dearly missed by her surviving parents, Lori and Tim Sager, her sister and partner, Katrina Kapcheck and Rick Crysler, and her brother and his wife, Michael and Carla Kapcheck. Missy is blessed with many aunts and uncles, including Norman Riggs, Billy Riggs, Robert and Bev Riggs, the late James Riggs, Sherri Bixler, Linda and Bill Flannagan, and Theresa and Joseph Flaherty, as well as many beloved cousins. Her friends are countless. And for those that knew her, this list wouldn’t be complete without a mention of her treasured pet and buddy, Jackson.

The family will receive friends from 5:00pm until 7:00pm Friday, November 22, 2019 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, November 23 at 11:00am at the same venue. Interment will follow directly after services in Catholic Cemetery of Savannah with her sons (Corey, Dylan, and Kyle), her stepfather, Tim Sager, her brother, Michael, and family friend, Tom Usher, as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family is encouraging donations in her name to Missy’s favorite charity, Georgia Animal Rescue and Defence (GARD). GARD accepts donations online at gardonline.org or by mail at 100 Dichroic Dragon Dr., Pembroke, GA 31321.

Our family has read all these beautiful messages and thank you from our hearts for sharing wonderful memories of Missy Speer. She was an incredible wife, mother, daughter and friend. Now it's our place to spread a little kindness to someone else as Missy did daily. Give a smile, handshake, a hug, a meal, a cup of coffee.... and tell them to pass a good deed foward in her name. Our family thank you all so much for your love. Gratefully, Lori and Tim Sager, parents

- Lori Sager, Cicero, NY

Praying for everyone who had the privilege of ever meeting Missy and especially for her family and loved ones. I met her in a dance school's waiting room on my daughter's first day of class. She put me at ease and as we spent several hours each week together (along with several other waiting moms) I could tell what an amazing person she was. She was a light of love and kindness, with each person she met I know she shared that with them too. I also pray that her love and kindness will continue to spread from all who knew her to everyone they meet.

- Laura Nixdorf, Rincon, GA

I only met Missy once on the beach at Tybee Island. I let her borrow a camera lens .We talked about photography sometimes weekly. I am so sorry for your loss. Prayers for Your family, John Michael.

- Mr. & Mrs. John M. Collins, Augusta, Ky.

Missy was a one of kind person, that I had the privilege to know. I say it was a privilege because it truly was. I have never met anyone like her. She was the most generous, selfless, and loving person that I have ever met. Paige and Scarlett have been best friends, since the day they met four years ago in Pre-K. Missy was a second mother to Paige and she loved Paige with all her heart, like she was her own. She was always someone to count on through thick and thin, never expecting any rewards. She touch the lives of a countless amount people, from going to help the homeless, free photography sessions for the underprivileged, being there for advice and support, and of course her random acts of kindness. She will be truly missed. Fly high beautiful angel! I know you are watching of us all.

- Mandy Smith , Savannah,

Missy was my cousin, we last saw each other as babies, and while we never had a chance to meet as adults we had many conversations via facebook, email and texts. I was shocked to hear of her passing and now have a huge hole in my heart of those missed possible encounters. Missy was a woman of insurmountable courage and kindness that we can all only hope to obtain. I will miss our conversations Missy but you will fit right in with the other Angel's.

- Dawn Scheurich , Westland, MI

Just like that. Swept away. Gone forever. So giving, so caring, you touched people's hearts, sometimes without them even knowing it. Did I ever say thank you? Guess we'll never really know why you were taken so soon. All we can do is keep moving and do our best to live by your example so perhaps we may be a better person here on Earth. Soar high Missy...

- Savannah Steve!, Savannah, GA

I got to know Missy Speer playing Pokemon GO. She was such a sweet woman and spoke very highly of her kids. A couple of months ago, her dog went missing. Although, I never met up with missy we were FB friends. She suffered with TMJD and we belonged to the same group. Our love of life, redheaded people, and raising our families was a common denominator too!! Her persistence in life to get what she wants is inspiring. Her love of family and friends, her new home on the island, she touched everyone she met. I will miss her immensely. ??I am still in shock as I know everyone is too. She is gone too soon. She had so much to give and live for. We will never understand why.

- Merrie Grant, Columbia, SC

It's so amazing to hear everyone's beautiful stories about our Missy. Although we never got to spend a ton of time together, the time that we did spend together was special and I can see that everyone feels the same way about her that we do. She owned the biggest heart in our family. The most giving and generous person with her time and resources. I have always admired and amazed at how much Missy has done for other people and it truly shows with all of the beautiful Facebook stories and comments here. Missy was truly a one of a kind soul. We will miss you forever. Continue to do your good in heaven lady!

- Ryan Flaherty, Greenville, SC

I came to know Missy through my work with GARD. When Jackson became ill I was the one who answered her message to us. Throughout the ordeal we talked almost daily and I came to know the special, caring person she was and what a wonderful family had given him such a loving home. She and I never met in person but became great friends on FB. When he was lost recently we again were in almost daily contact. I will always believe her absolute refusal to let him go is what brought him home. I will miss our conversations and seeing all her wonderful pictures. My thoughts and prayers to Mike, the kids and her beloved Jackson. Rest in peace my sweet friend, you will be missed by so many.

- Vicki Buck, Metter, GA

- Bobby Bryan , Hudson,

There are not enough words in the English language to convey my sorrow and disbelief. But I know the Holy Spirit understands my soul's sadness and makes intercession on my behalf to God. I have never met a person who inspired me to be better and do more, than Missy. Her energy, though limited, seemed boundless when she was doing something good for someone else. I always thought of her as the female Mr. Rogers, because she lived and breathed his famous quote, "What is the Secret of Happiness? Be Kind. Be Kind. Be Kind" -Fred Rogers. I'll love and miss you forever. Thank you for giving so much of yourself, always.
