Anne Lee Tyree Kolman, 91, died peacefully with her daughters by her side, Sunday, February 6, 2022. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses & staff at Memorial Hospital for their kindness during her last days.
Born November 20, 1930, in Norfolk, VA to the late Annie Robertson Tyree and Harold Lee Tyree, she spent her early days in Charlotte, NC, before moving to Savannah in 1942. She was a 1949 graduate of Savannah High School and Crawford Long Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1952.
Anne worked as a private duty nurse for many years prior to her career as an RN at Memorial Hospital and worked in the neonatal and mother/child units. She retired from Memorial Medical Center at the age of 70. Her caring way touched many lives.
She married the late Ronald Kolman, her one love, December 21, 1952. She and Ron were married more than 57 years before his death December 2009. Anne and Ron loved entertaining large crowds of family and friends. They spent much of their time traveling and boating. Together in their RV, they visited 49 states, only missing Alaska. They traveled to Niagara Falls, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Maine, Hawaii, Washington State, and the San Diego Coast. They had wonderful adventures and made friends wherever they went.
Family and friends were most important. She loved to volunteer and always continue to learn. She was an avid reader and consumed books. She enjoyed her Red Hat Ladies, Generation One, Smart Seniors, Lunch & Learns, and adventures with her friends. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Isle of Hope and volunteered at the St. Thomas Thrift Store. She was a strong, smart, caring lady.
In addition to her husband and parents, Anne was predeceased by a brother, Harold Sharpley Tyree; Sisters-in-law Bette Perry (Edward), Delores Beacham (Franklin), and her Son-in-Law Sean Hayes.
Anne leaves behind two daughters, Anne Kolman Smith (Edgar) and Karen Kolman Hayes; five grandchildren, Edgar William Smith, III, Amy Lee Gwinner McKinney (Tim), Christopher Lee Gwinner, Ben Lee Gwinner, Rosie Lee Gwinner Kitchens (Lee); four great-grandchildren, Nicholas Gwinner, Tanner McKinney, Ava Lee Kitchens, Grace Marie Kitchens, Brother-in-law, Franklin Beacham, many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends that will miss her dearly.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, February 12, 2022, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Isle of Hope. The family will follow the service with a gathering of friends and family to celebrate her life.
