Richard Miranda

Richard Miranda, 92, died peacefully at home on January 18, 2022 surrounded by his daughter, Mary, and son-in-law, Bob and under the loving care of the Kindred Hospice staff.

Richard was born June 23, 1929, in Bayamon, Puerto Rico to Adrian and Hortensia Miranda.  As a child, Richard’s family moved to Manhattan, NY, where he graduated from The High School of Commerce.  After graduation, Richard attended Columbia University.  In 1948, Richard joined the United States Air Force.  As a 20-year veteran, Richard was a decorated Korean War Veteran and an instrumental part of the Strategic Air Command Missile Program at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.  It was during his brief station at Hunter Airfield in 1953, that Richard met his Southern Charm, Margaret Mary McLaughlin, who he married in 1954.  Richard and his wife relocated to Santa Barbara County, CA in 1958.  After leaving the service, Richard ran a small shop in Lompoc, CA until his retirement in 1998.  Richard had a deep love for Chess, Operas and Classical Music.  His favorite past times included woodworking, electronics, gardening, travel, and playing the harmonica.

Richard resided in California until his wife’s passing in 2012, then returned to Savannah for his remaining years. Richard is survived by his five children, Janis Holliday (Roland), Robert Miranda (Juliet), Mary Catherine Edwards (Bob), Veronica Miranda, and Diane Miranda (Jeff); eleven grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren; two nephews, Angelo and Giovanni Miranda; and a niece, Bianca Gardner.
