Celebrating the life of

Patrol Officer Anthony Christie

August 29, 1980 - May 25, 2018

"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." John 15:13

Patrol Officer Anthony Christie

Patrol Officer Anthony Christie, of the Savannah Police Department, lost his life in the line of duty on May 25, 2018. Anthony’s patrol car was struck by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 16 while he was assisting with traffic control following a vehicle accident.

Anthony was born on August 29, 1980, in Berkeley, California. Upon graduating high school, he joined the Navy where he proudly served his country for 13 years. He was a Master-at-Arms Second Class in the 4th Fleet and spent his final years of active duty at Naval Air Station Jacksonville and remained a reservist. A decorated war veteran, Anthony was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal, the Navy Good Conduct Medal, Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal and the Global War on Terror Service Medal.

Anthony joined the Savannah Police Department in December 2015 and was officially sworn in on May 19, 2016, where he was assigned to the Central Precinct. He loved being a police officer and was passionate about serving his community. Anthony was respected by his fellow officers and the people he came in contact with while on the job. He was the type of officer that everyone wanted to ride a call with and had the innate ability to take control of a situation and provide a calming presence. In 2016, Anthony and other officers were awarded a Team Work Award for assisting in the search and rescue of a missing child abandoned in the woods by a robbery suspect. Anthony’s devotion to his job and his dedication to excellence and service as a police officer is a shining example that all should aspire to.

Anthony is survived by his wife and soulmate of 15 years, Nicole Weldon Christie; his parents, Kathy and Tony Christie; and his sister, Alice Christie.

Anthony was a huge San Francisco 49ers and San Francisco Giants fan. He and his wife, Nicole, enjoyed the outdoors and spent much of their time kayaking, jet skiing and traveling. Anthony had a passion for fast cars and his sportbike. He also loved spending time with his beloved dog, Bizkit, a Yorkshire Terrier.

Anthony will always be remembered as a loving husband and a devoted son, brother, and friend. He is a true hero who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Officer Christie’s flag draped casket will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. & 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 31, 2018 and Friday, June 1, 2018 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel, 7200 Hodgson Memorial Drive.

A service to celebrate the heroic life of Officer Christie will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Compassion Christian Church, Henderson Campus, 55 Al Henderson Boulevard. Following the service the honor procession will depart Compassion Christian Church for Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. At the time the flag draped casket arrives by a horse drawn caisson, Law Enforcement Honors to include United States Navy Honors will be rendered. The public is welcome to line the funeral route to honor Officer Christie’s ultimate sacrifice for his community and country.

Motorcade Route

The procession will proceed east on Little Neck Road to Ogeechee Road. The procession will turn right on Ogeechee Road and then take the eastbound on-ramp to Highway 204. Dear Nicole & Family, you have our deepest condolences for the loss of your loving Husband, Anthony. God's Word tells us that unforseen occurences befalls us all and this reminds us of just how short life can be. But The God who supplies endurance and comfort also promises us that the ones we have lost in death are in his memory because they are precious in his eyes and he assures us that we will see our loved ones again according to His faithful promises for the future. We pray that knowing this gives you much needed comfort.

- Harris Family, Chicago, Illinois

May the friends and family of Mr. Christie find comfort in the Bible's promises that soon, "all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out" (John 5:28, 29), and "[God] will wipe out every tear from [our] eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore." (Revelation 21:3, 4). We can also rest assured that God 'will swallow up death forever, and He will wipe away the tears from all faces...for He himself has spoken it.' (Isaiah 25:8)
