Celebrating the life of

Genevieve Pinckney O'Connor

August 18, 1929 - January 22, 2022

Genevieve Pinckney O'Connor

Genevieve Pinckney O’Connor died peacefully in her home surrounded by family on January 22nd, 2022.

Genevieve was born August 18, 1929 in Pinckney Colony, SC to Annie Haye and Joseph Oliveris Pinckney. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Daniel “Doc” O’Connor Jr, daughters, Mary Christina O’Connor Mock and Ellen O’Connor Ripley, great-grandson, Patrick “Pate” Joseph O’Connor III and siblings: Frances, Marie, Betty, Clara, Ollie, Linny, Carroll and Butch Lowenthal.

Genevieve attended Saint Vincent’s Academy and graduated from Saint Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1950, spending the majority of her nursing career in Labor and Delivery. Genevieve was a very proud recipient of the McCauley Medal and the Gartland Award for her service to others. After raising their seven children, Doc and Genevieve moved to Tybee where she volunteered for many years at Saint Michael’s Thrift Store.

Genevieve is survived by her dear sister and best friend, Patricia Lowenthal; daughter, Maureen Simmons (Richard), sons, Daniel III (Jodie), Patrick (Pam), Michael (Dee), and Terrence (Donna); grandchildren: Caroline, Allison (Hal), Josh (Liz), Michael (Cates), Katie, Patrick Jr (LeighAnne), Joseph (Elizabeth), Daniel IV (Ashley), Kevin, Andrew, Michael Jr, Lizzie, Chris (Nicole), Emily, Colin, and Jack; Ryan (Torey) and Samantha (Jonathan); Christopher (Caroline) and Kason; great-grandchildren: Marlee, Rhett, Vincent, Charlotte, Amelia, Jack, Wyatt, Oliver, Eleanor, Cora, Rowan, Pearson, Walker, Claire, Rhoads, Grady, Mabry, and Sullivan; and many, many special nieces and nephews and her dear, lifelong friend, Carroll Kelly.

Genevieve was so kind and giving to all that she met and an honorary mother and grandmother to so many. Our dear Mama and Granny was selfless her entire life and her example of immense faith has left an imprint on all of our hearts. May we all honor Genevieve by emulating her genuine example of love to all she encountered. “And over all of these put on love, that is the bond of perfection.” (Colossians 3:14)

To my Irish Family, my deepest condolences on the loss of Mrs Genevieve. I absolutely adored her. As crazy teenagers, she put up with our crazy antics and nothing we did that she knew of ever surprised her. She was always a tower of everything good, patient and a generous spirit. She had a wonderful life and was blessed and loved by all who knew her. She earned her angel wings on Earth. Love to Doc, Pat, Maureen & Terry. May her memory be eternal. ❤️✝️

Was thinking of how Aunt Gen loved to sing at church! She was a robust singer, thinking about that makes me smile. Here's a great hymn that might encourage us all............................"Now thank we all our God with heart and hands and voices, Who wondrous things hath done, In whom His world rejoices, Who, from our mothers' arms, Hath blessed us on our way , With countless gifts of love, And still is ours today. O may this bounteous God Through all our life be near us With ever joyful hearts and blessed peace to cheer us, And keep us in His grace, And guide us when perplexed, And free us from all ills, And keep us safe and blessed." Love ya'll.

If you go through life and meet 10 people that have a truly good heart, you are lucky. Mrs. O’Connor was one of those for me. Growing up directly across the street from the O’Connor family ,I still wonder how she and my Mother talked on the phone every night for two hours. When I saw her at my Mother’s funeral ,I had not seen her in over 30 years. But it was like it was yesterday in the back of her station wagon, going to the Aquatic club pool. God Speed Mrs. O’Connor.
