Lou Ada Shonerd

Lou Ada Shonerd, 81, died peacefully on Thursday,  December 23, 2021 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. 

The Webster City, IA native was a longtime resident of Cedar Rapids, IA before moving to Savannah. After Lou graduated from Webster City High School in Webster City, she attended the Electronic Radio-Television Institute in Omaha, NE where she trained as a Teletypewriter Operator. Lou moved to Washington, DC to work for the CIA. In Washington, Lou met and fell in love with her future husband, James Shonerd. James and Lou were married on June 5, 1960, they later moved back to Iowa where  they raised their two daughters. 

Lou was very artistic and creative. Her passion was painting, and she loved to decorate. Lou and her husband spent most weekends at yard sales finding treasures that Lou would transform into works of art. Her specialty was turning plastic hobby horses into beautifully adorned carousel horses. 

Lou was predeceased by her parents, John A. and Louise Nelson Whaley; and a daughter, Lynn Shonerd of Cedar Rapids, IA
In addition to her husband, Lou leaves behind to cherish her memory a daughter, Deborah Fischer of Brunswick; sister, Lee Assing of Cassville, MO; sister-in-law, Norma Hoehndorf of The Villages, FL; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Childree of Savannah; three grandsons, James Fischer and Karl Fischer, both of Brunswick and Austin Shonerd of Cedar Rapids; three great-grandchildren, Isabell, Holly and Skyler; and one great-great granddaughter, Neveah.
