Celebrating the life of

Elbert Dale (Chuck) Brown

Passed away on November 06, 2021

Elbert Dale (Chuck) Brown

Elbert Dale (Chuck) Brown, age 66, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021, with his wife by his side.  Chuck courageously battled cancer for the last four years, while living life lovingly and as fully as possible.

Chuck was born in Savannah on September 13, 1955 as the son of Elbert Duncan and Arlene Lumley Brown. Chuck enjoyed a happy childhood in a neighborhood full of children. He began playing sports at an early age and was a sports and athletic advocate all of his life. Chuck maintained many friendships from his earliest years throughout his life. He was loyal.  Chuck graduated from Savannah Christian Preparatory School in 1973. He attended South Georgia College and graduated from Armstrong State College with a Bachelor of Science degree. Chuck retired from many years of service as a professional in the insurance industry, representing Allstate Insurance Company.  Chuck valued and appreciated his clients. Chuck was baptized into the Christian faith as a young child. He exhibited those virtues throughout his life, sometimes quietly, sometimes joyfully, and he was always gracious, compassionate and loving. He attended St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church along with his wife Susie.

In 2009, he married Susan Maria (Susie) Pelli Clements. Chuck enjoyed and appreciated the beautiful life they had together on Isle of Hope. They were always surrounded by their sons, family, and many friends.  Chuck especially enjoyed his golf time and looked forward to annual golf tournaments when his son, Michael, came from Atlanta to play in those tournaments with him. Chuck received “outstanding sportsmanship” awards throughout his school years.  He attended UGA games with his friends for many years. When Chuck was no longer able to physically manage the road trips to the games, he and Susie hosted the UGA games in their home where all were welcome.

Chuck leaves behind his wife, Susie, his son, Michael Mangan Brown, Atlanta, stepson, Travis Wynne Clements, Savannah, sister, Gail Brown Rountree and brother-in-law, James M. (Mickey) Rountree, Savannah. In 2009, when Chuck married Susie, he was thrilled to add Pelli in-laws to his family. He leaves behind Jimmy and Barbara Pelli, Linda and Sonny Harper, Gina and James Brennan, Dickey and Linda Sanders Pelli, Mary and Steve Horton, Julie and Neal Rodewolt, John and Cherie Pelli, and Terry and Frances Pelli. Chuck is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert Duncan and Arlene Lumley Brown, Savannah, and a nephew, Rhett Morgan Rountree, Savannah.

The family extends warm gratitude to the many friends who loved, supported, and encouraged Chuck during these last four years. The family is especially grateful for the care he received from Memorial Health.

Visitation will take place at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel, 7200 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Georgia, 31406, on Thursday, November 11, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. The memorial service will be on Friday, November 12, 4:00 pm, St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 11500 Middleground Road, Savannah, Georgia, 31419.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Jenkins Athletic Club, 6408 Waters Avenue, Savannah, Georgia 31406 will be meaningful.

Just last week, I jokingly said to someone that ‘I was the nicest person in the world’. I immediately paused for a moment… and then I seriously said ‘well that’s not quite true. There is a fella I know by the name of Chuck Brown… he’s actually the nicest person in the world’. And I meant that! I have known Chuck since 1989 as he took care of all of my insurance needs. I, and everyone that knew him will miss him dearly. This world was a better place with Chuck. My prayers and thoughts are with his family, other loved ones, and all of his friends. May all please take care.

- Danny Weatherly, Savannah, GA

Susie,Michael,Travis and family. My heart goes out to you all over this terrible loss. Chuck was such a sweet soul. If you knew Chuck for 5 minutes ,you had a great day. If you were lucky enough to be his friend then your life was so much better. I can't say Chuck was my "best friend" ,but he was certainly the BEST, of all my friends. This past Wednesday I got a phone call from Chuck . He heard that I hurt my shoulder and he was calling to check on me. Here's a guy who was in a really bad place physically but only concerned about others. But that was Chuck. We talked and laughed for 15 minutes or so and as we said our goodbye's and pledged to get together soon I said "Love you buddy" and Chuck replied "Love you too ,Fino" And that was it. I don't think we ever expressed that before but that was certainly the time. It was always just understood. We all loved Chuck very much and he loved us right back. Chucky, I hope you're on the most beautiful golf course imaginable and all the holes dogleg to the right to fit that little fade of yours. God bless you my brother, we miss you so much already.
