Celebrating the life of

Helen Bradley Tarbutton

September 21, 1967 - October 12, 2021

Helen Bradley Tarbutton

Helen Bradley Tarbutton died unexpectedly Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at her home in Sea Island, Georgia.

Born September 21, 1967 at the old Telfair Hospital in Savannah, Helen was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Waldo Bradley and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Bradley of Savannah and Mr. and Mrs. William A. Morse of Atlanta.

Helen graduated from the Savannah Country Day School in 1985 and received a B.A. in Political Science from Sweet Briar College in 1989. After college, she attended Parsons School of Design in New York City and received an A.A.S. degree in Interior Design. She was a member of the American Society of Interior Design.

The lights of her life were her three children, Mary Helen McNatt Tarbutton, Charles Kernaghan Tarbutton, Jr. and William Bradley Tarbutton. If she could have had one last wish, it would be to be a part of their lives much longer.

Helen was presented at The Cotillion Club of Savannah in December 1986.  She was a member of the Sea Island Club, the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, the Trustees’ Garden Club of Savannah, and the Sea Island Garden Club. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church at Frederica in St. Simons, and she served on the board of The State Botanical Garden of Georgia.

As a 27-year resident of Sandersville, GA, Helen gave generously of her time and talents to her community.  She served in many volunteer leadership capacities including at Sandersville United Methodist Church, Brentwood School, and the Rosa M. Tarbutton Memorial Library. Helen was an active participant in Leadership Georgia for many years and spent the last ten years as an active parent at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA.

To those who knew her, Helen had a special way of making everyone feel loved and accepted. She was compassionate and loyal, and her kindness knew no limits. She spread love wherever she walked, made all those around her laugh and smile with her humor, and comforted all with her affection. Helen’s positive energy and radiant spirit will live on through those she loved.

In addition to her three children, she is survived by her parents Jenny Lynn and Waldo Bradley; her sister Malinda Bergen and her husband Frederick S. Bergen, and nephew Fred Bergen, Jr. and niece Fontaine Bergen; her brother William Waldo Bradley, Jr. and his wife Margaret, and nephews William and Jack Bradley, and niece Helen Bradley; aunts and uncles, Judy and Dan Bradley of Savannah, Ruthie and Jack Morse of Sea Island, Jan and Robert Goocher of Lake Burton, Marie and Billy Morse of Toccoa; cousins, John D. Wheeler, Molly Jackson, and Bradley Kirsch, Dan Bradley, Jr. and Louise Johnson, Jack and David Morse, Madelyn Lloyd, Melissa Griffith, and Allie Morse.

A celebration of her life will be held at her parents’ home on Sylvan Island in Savannah at 2pm on Sunday afternoon, October 17th with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family has created The Helen Bradley Tarbutton Scholarship Fund at Brentwood School in Sandersville, GA to assist students aspiring to attend the school.  Memorials may be made to Brentwood School, Post Office Box 955, Sandersville, Georgia, 31082.

My most prominent memory of Helen is from the last day of 5th grade (Spring 1978). We were all at a Lower School assembly, and Helen was called to the front to receive some kind of certificate of recognition. It was for being a library assistant, or something like that. When Helen was handed the certificate, she was crying tears of joy. I send my prayers and Christ's love to Helen's family.
