Celebrating the life of

Michael Barrett Welsh, Jr

Passed away on September 28, 2021

Michael Barrett Welsh, Jr

Michael Barrett Welsh Jr., 66, of Savannah passed away on the morning of September 28, 2021. Barrett is survived by his wife, Cindy Rooks Welsh; his daughters Amber Welsh (Ivano Harris) and Kelli deVegter (Wesley); his grandchildren, Alanna, Braeden, Luca, and Violet; his siblings, Sally, Jimmy, Timmy, and Betty: many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Barrett Welsh Sr., mother, Elizabeth Davis Welsh and brother, Joe Welsh.

Barrett was born and raised in Savannah to Barrett and Bette Welsh. His five siblings called him “Bubba”, but others may have known him as a troublemaker. They spent many cherished years together at the beach on Tybee. Barrett and Cindy loved traveling and caring for their numerous adopted dogs over the years. He would do anything for his daughters, even coaching them in basketball and attending a Georgia Tech game or two- despite being an avid Bulldog fan. Barrett started his own business and was delighted when his daughter Kelli joined him there. In fact, most of his family has worked with him at some point. And Barrett was a hard worker - but not on Thursdays when you could find him at La Vida Country Club with his friends.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, October 1, 2021, at The Catholic Cemetery. Family will also receive friends from 1:00 PM at The Knights of Columbus Council 631, 3 W. Liberty Street.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be sent to Renegade PAWS Rescue.

GUEST BOOK

My first but certainly not only memory of Barrett was during lunch in the second grade. It consisted of a pint of milk and a ketchup sandwich. My shock at such an oddity was met with a shrug as he seemed to enjoy it. Said he loved ketchup. Years later, I’d remind him of that unique delicacy and we’d both laugh. Our friendship began with a ketchup sandwich and I could write story after story since that time, but those are better told to a drinking audience. My condolences to his family. I’d be shocked if Joe and Gunny weren’t awaiting his arrival with a pint or two. John McCarthy

Who is going to call me 20 times a day? Who am I going to complain to about all these people we don’t like — joking of course;) Who will complain about how I make coffee? You quickly became more than a boss to me; family is what you are. That office will never be the same. I am so thankful for 4.5 years with you. I remember the first thing Kendall told me was if I could get passed you being mean, I would last. I immediately laughed because after meeting you the first time, I realized we are so much alike. I could not have asked for a better Boss. We will hold things down at MBW, you rest easy. We miss you so much already!!

- Amber, Guyton, Georgia

My condolences to Cindy, the family and Barrett’s many, many friends. To me he will always be Coach Barrett. I remind him and Timmy of that every time I see them… usually at Docs. Coach Barrett and “the Saturday morning window climb” will always be a fond memory from my childhood (Timmy knows the details). I smile at this thought while at the same time I am saddened by our loss. I’m sorry I am unable to be in Savannah tomorrow to be with his family and friends. I hope all will celebrate the life Barrett shared with all of us as we mourn our loss. God Bless you, Coach.

Barrett was a good and loyal friend and a charter member of the Daffin Park kids. Having known Barrett all my life and competing in ball games both with Barrett and against him, it was ALWAYS better to be on his side. You stood a higher chance of winning and a lower chance of getting punched in the mouth. Rest in Peace my buddy, you earned it.
