Celebrating the life of

Sharon Blount Clarke

December 14, 1947 - September 13, 2021

Sharon Blount Clarke

SHE WAS BORN ON 14 DECEMBER 1947 IN SAVANNAH, GEORGIA TO FRANCES ANN SESSOMS AND JUDSON BURL BLOUNT. GROWING UP IN SAVANNAH, SHE WAS EDUCATED IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM, GRADUATING FROM JENKINS HIGH SCHOOL IN 1966, AND CONTINUED HER EDUCATION, ATTENDING THE NEW FOUR-YEAR ARMSTRONG STATE COLLEGE, GRADUATING WITH A BA DEGREE IN ENGLISH. SHE THEN MARRIED EUGENE GILBERT CLARKE (GIL) IN 1971 AND THEY HAD TWO BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTERS: ELISABETH ANN AND CATHERINE BELLE CLARKE.

SHE TAUGHT ENGLISH IN THE SAVANNAH SCHOOLS UNTIL HER HUSBAND ACCEPTED A TRANSFER TO FREMONT, OHIO FOR FIVE YEARS. THROUGHOUT HER CHILDHOOD, SHE WAS CONTINUOUSLY INVOLVED IN THE GIRL SCOUT PROGRAM, AND SHE CONTINUED AS A TROUP LEADER IN OHIO, BRINGING UP THE TWO GIRLS IN HER FOOTSTEPS,

ALONG THE WAY, SHE ENJOYED COLLECTING ANTIQUES, GROWING DAYLILLIES AND CULTIVATED AN INTEREST IN ORCHIDS, A HOBBY THAT LASTED FORTY YEARS.

ABOVE ALL OF THIS, HOWEVER, SHE LOVED HER FAMILY. WHEN THE GIRLS GOT MARRIED, ELISABETH GAVE US OUR FIRST GRANDSON, JOHNATHAN DEVIN CLARKE, AND KATIE FOLLOWED WITH ANOTHER GRANDSON, BRAEDEN CUYLER HARDY, AND OUR ONLY GRANDDAUGHTER ALAINA SINCLAIR HARDY.

IN RETIREMENT, SHARON ENJOYED HER RV, CHASING THE GRANDCHILDREN FROM SOUTH GEORGIA TO NORTH GEORGIA, AS THEIR PARENTS ACCEPTED JOBS IN WAYCROSS AND IN THE LOWER APPALACHAIN MOUNTAINS OF CLEVELAND / HELEN, GEORGIA.

THOSE WHO KNEW HER WOULD AGREE THAT SHE LIVED A GOOD CHRISTIAN LIFE, LOVING, KIND, PATIENT, DEPENDABLE, AND ALWAYS OPINIONATED.

HER MARRIAGE SURVIVED FIFTY YEARS, BUT ON MONDAY 13 SEPTEMBER 2021, HER LORD CALLED AND BROUGHT HER TO HIS SIDE, OPENING A NEW AND GLORIOUS CHAPTER IN HER LIFE.

GUEST BOOK

I was saddened to hear that Sharon passed away. Sending healing prayers and comforting hugs.

- Donna Blalock, Bluffton, South Carolina

Gil, Jenny and I are upset to learn of the passing of Sharon. Sharon was one of Jenny's favorite students in English class at ASC. We also remember her working at your side at all of the Savannah Scottish Games. The "Games" will never be the same again without her. Sharon was a fiercely loyal friend to Jenny and would always seek her out at the games to spend time with her. The two of them would enjoy the moments reminiscing about the classes at Armstrong. Sharon would always hijack me with my golf cart to take from one venue site to another in an effort to move more quickly through the crowds of kilted highlanders. She was a joy to be with. Jenny has lost another very important friend and she feels it strongly. I have lost a wonderful friend and know that the "games" will never be as fun with out her and that they will never be the same. We are so very sorry that your family has lost her. We hope that you and your family will be comforted with the knowledge that Sharon was well loved by many. The loss will be felt forever. God bless you my friend and I hope you and your family will have the blessings of our lord and savior.
