Celebrating the life of

Duncan Hamilton Adams

October 06, 1967 - September 05, 2021

Duncan Hamilton Adams

Duncan Hamilton Adams, aged 53, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2021. Duncan was a graduate of the Savannah Country Day School, Class of 1986, and the University of Georgia, Class of 1995. Duncan later attended Emory University School of Law where he received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1998. Duncan grew up at the family home in Vernonburg, Georgia, enjoying life on the Vernon River with family and friends. He loved school at Savannah Country Day and the lifelong friendships that he made there. He excelled in football, track, and tennis while there and rarely missed a single day of school. Duncan played bass guitar in his “doctor’s office” band, The Vice, and was co-writer of the band’s first epic hit single, “Bugs.” Duncan was a diehard Georgia Bulldogs football fan and loved the college life at UGA, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order, Gamma Chapter. After graduating from law school, Duncan opened and managed his own law practice in the Atlanta-area, where he often did pro bono work for those in need that he met “along the way.” Duncan was an intense competitor and loyal friend. He cherished his dogs, cats and other animals throughout his life, most recently the notoriously uncooperative Button the cat. He was an avid offshore fisherman, embarking on many adventures to the Gulfstream with friends on his boat, Empty Cannibal. In recent years, Duncan spent time doing what he loved: spending months at a time overseas exploring countries in Eastern Europe and in particular, Ukraine.

Duncan was born on October 6, 1967, in Savannah, Georgia and was baptized at Christ Episcopal Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas H. Adams and Andrea K. Adams (McLaughlin); brother, Thomas H. Adams, Jr.; and his stepfather, Lt. General John N. McLaughlin, (U.S.M.C).

Duncan is survived by his brothers, Alexander Pratt Adams, II, John Barnard Adams, II (Jackie), Cam Dorsey Adams, and David Wynn Adams, and by many loved cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends.

Remembrances may be sent to the Savannah Country Day School for use to support the weight room facilities and Athletics Department.

A private graveside funeral service is planned for family and friends at Bonaventure Cemetery at 11:00 am on Friday, September 24, 2021.

Looking for Duncan and found this. My many condolences to his brothers whom I never met. We were friends in Atlanta and he took me to meet your Mom once. My husband and I moved to Richmond hill recently after moving back from bluffton where we built a home. I wanted to catch up wondering if this is where the home was where we met. He had mentioned this area when I told him we were going to buy a home. Last time we spoke in 2017 Duncan mentioned they may be selling the family home after his Mom passed. He did a zoom with me once to I to introduce me to someone he knew in the Ukraine. am saddened by his early death and know he loved his animals (the raccoons!) Button and his family very much. He worked hard and did his best for people. It's a commitment to be an attorney, a Doctor anything serving people. I wish the best for you all. Prayers! Be blessed.

Duncan and I attended Emory Law together and he was one of the first friends I made there. I was saddened to hear of his passing. Although we lost touch over the years, I still had many fond memories from our Emory days. My thoughts are with his family and friends. RIP Duncan.
