Myrtie Lorraine DeLettre Beery

January 08, 1936 - August 30, 2021

Myrtie Lorraine DeLettre Beery

Myrtie Lorraine (DeLettre) Beery, age 85, died peacefully at home in Savannah, Georgia, surrounded by her husband, Eugene Beery and their two daughters, Laura and Donna.

Lorraine was born on January 8, 1936, in Savannah, Georgia. Later that year she won Savannah’s prettiest baby contest.

A devout Christian, she was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. For most of her adult life she played piano and organ for Sunday church services. For many years she led the music program for the congregation’s Primary (age 3-12) children and was a teacher in the Young Women’s youth organization (age 13-18). All church roles were as a volunteer.

Lorraine is a 1954 graduate of Savannah High School and attended Armstrong College (now Georgia Southern University, Armstrong Campus). She retired from Memorial Hospital (now Memorial Health University Hospital) in Savannah and was an avid gardener at her home.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, Eugene P. Beery, Jr.; two daughters, Laura J. Beery Goldade (Larry) of Portland, Oregon, and Donna L. Beery Markward (James) of Savannah; sister-in-law Caroline I. Beery Hackle; seven beautiful grandchildren: Chancey Goldade (Starla Shae), Ansley Goldade Wilhem (Tyler), Madison Goldade, Brigdon Markward (Brooke Levy), Elise Markward (Alec Davey), Jacob Markward, and Avery Markward; three great-grandchildren: Sawyer Goldade, Griffen Wilhelm, and Nell Wilhelm; plus many nephews, nieces, cherished friends, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey F. DeLettre and Myrtle L. Daniel DeLettre, and her brother, Dewey F. DeLettre.

Her family extends a special “Thank you” to all who went the extra mile in caring for Lorraine, including Miss Edna, Hospice of Savannah, Comfort Keepers, and other nurses, plus family friends who helped to give her a peaceful passing to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The family looks forward to seeing family and friends for visitation on Friday, September 10, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel, 7200 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah.
