Charles L. “Pinkie” McCord, Sr. passed away under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, Georgia. He was born June 26, 1928 in Savannah, Georgia to James Ernest McCord and Beatrice Shannon McCord.  He was a long time resident of Colonel’s Island. He served an apprenticeship at Great Dane Trailers and was a machinist by trade. He retired from Hunt Wesson Foods. He loved the coast and was devoted to the Colonel’s Island community. He was an iconic fixture of the island and could often be seen cruising around on his golf cart. He lived life large and loved being on the saltwater and spending time with family and friends. He was an avid fisherman with many secret fishing spots and also loved to crab and shrimp.

He is preceded in death by his wife Hilda Daughtry McCord, his son Charles L. McCord Jr., and his son-in-law Hugh Dorsey Thompson, Jr.  He is survived by his daughter Ginger Thompson, grandchildren David Thompson (Jennifer), Hugh “Trey” Thompson III (Kayla), Caroline, Mac and Mitchell McCord, daughter-in-law Barbara McCord, great granddaughters Daughtry and Charlie Thompson.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, August 30, 2021 at 2:00 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Savannah, GA.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully encourages that memorial contributions be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice or your favorite charity.
