Rex Albert McClure III, 90, of The Marshes on Skidaway Island, GA passed away peacefully on August 20,2021. He was born on January 1, 1931, in Ashland, KY to Rex Albert McClure, Jr. and Janet Russell McClure.

Rex and his family settled in Piqua, OH in 1944, where Rex played 4 years of both football and baseball and graduated from Piqua High School in 1949. He attended Ohio University, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and vice-president of his senior class and graduated in 1954 with a business degree.

At graduation, he was commissioned a Lieutenant in the U.S.A.F. and spent two years stationed in Japan. After leaving the service, he returned to Piqua, OH, and for the next 36 years worked in various capacities for Miami Industries, a highly successful welded-steel tubing manufacturer. He became President of the company in 1970 and remained so until his retirement in 1992.

In 1958, Rex married Beverly (Bobbe) Butterfield and they had three children: Suzanne, Elaine, and Steve. In Piqua, Rex was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Piqua Country Club, YMCA, and the Racquet Club among others.

In 1979, 25 years to the day after she was pinned as his Sweetheart of Sigma Chi at OU, Rex married Ann Gordon Bannon, proving that there is such a thing as a second chance!  From this marriage, he gained two stepchildren: Rick and Lisa Bannon.  Rex and Ann bought a cottage on beautiful Burt Lake in northern Michigan in 1985, where they would spend the summer months. Visits from family and friends made these amongst their happiest times.

In 1993, Rex and Ann moved from Ohio to Skidaway Island, GA, just outside of Savannah. Residing in first “The Landings” followed by “The Marshes” communities which provided them with a new group of like-minded friends. Always ready for activity, Rex enjoyed traveling, golfing, fishing, playing cards, watching sports on TV, and sipping a good martini while socializing with friends and family. Most of all, he enjoyed being with Ann, the love of his life. The two traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada plus visited most European countries, along with trips to Australia, Asia, and South America.

Rex was predeceased by his parents and sister, Joan McClure McLean, and by Ann, his loving wife of 37 years. He is survived by five children: Suzanne Kelly (Marty), Elaine Nesbitt, Steve McClure (Mary Lee), Rick Bannon (Julie) and Lisa Bannon. Nine grandchildren: Devon McClure (Paula), Alex, Andrew, Joe and Katie McClure, Jessica Pruitt (Vance), Tyler Bannon (Dana), Chris and Evan Junk.
