Celebrating the life of

Beverly "Becky" Kaye Martin

September 29, 1946 - August 19, 2021

Beverly

Beverly “Becky” Kaye Martin, 74, passed away on the morning of Thursday, August 19, 2021, surrounded by her adoring family.

Born in Santa Monica, California on September 29, 1946 to Thelma Lucille Chaney Vernon and Clarence Albert Vernon, she was the eldest of four daughters. As the proud daughter of a Christian minister who founded the West Covina Church of Christ in Los Angeles County, California, Becky and her family served churches all over the country before her father joined the Navy as a Chaplin. After Becky graduated from Beaufort High School in 1964, she attended California Western University in San Diego and Armstrong College in Savannah. It was at Armstrong College where she would cross paths with the love of her life, Buddy Martin.

While it was love at first sight for Buddy, it was not for Becky. Eventually he won her over and they were married on July 30, 1966. Together they built a life with their three daughters and four grandchildren.

Becky’s light shined bright and she was a joy to all who knew her. Her favorite role was as wife “Bevy”, mother “Mom”, and grandmother “Grammy”. The sweet sounds of her singing “You Are My Sunshine”, “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah”, “Spoonful of Sugar”, and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” will ring forever in her family’s hearts. They will cherish the precious memories of being in her beautiful homes where she graciously welcomed her loved ones with open arms and an infectious smile, gathering all for delicious meals, laughter, and unconditional love.

Becky had a successful career in real estate working along side Buddy at Atlantic Investors in Savannah, GA and Acquest in Charleston, SC. Becky also had a rewarding career in residential real estate in Savannah with Prudential Southeast Coastal Properties, Cora Bett Thomas Realty, The Ford Plantation Christies Great Estates, and Keller Williams, and in Charleston with Carolina Southern Properties and Dunes Properties.

Becky was a charter member of the Messiah Lutheran Church on Skidaway Island, serving on the Church Council Finance Committee.  She also enjoyed volunteer work serving as Vice President of The Children’s Theatre and as entertainment coordinator for The Annual Night in Old Savannah festival.

Becky is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 55 years, Rubert “Buddy” Clary Martin, Jr., her cherished daughters, Amy Martin Pinckney (Ashley), Melody Martin Norwood, and Sally Anne Martin, her beloved grandchildren, Grace Archer Pinckney, Ashley “Ash” Pinckney, Jr., Madeline Kathleen Ryan, and Hayes Gibson Norwood, her sisters, Melody Villarreal (Rene), and Mary Sherman (Ron), and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Thelma and Al Vernon, and her sister, Kathleen (Kathy) Trevino.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 28, 2021, beginning at 10:15 am, followed by an 11:00 am memorial service, conducted by the Reverend Jason Talsness, at Messiah Lutheran Church on Skidaway Island.

It was Becky’s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, Nancy N. and J. C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion, or Messiah Lutheran Church on Skidaway Island.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Joseph W. Dehaven, MD, Mary Martha Finn, DO and Joseph Stubbs III, MD for being with Becky in her final days when her family was unable to be by her side.
