Celebrating the life of

Daniel Scott Vaughan

Passed away on July 14, 2021

Daniel cared about people in the purest of ways. He loved them for who they were and asked nothing in return.

Daniel Scott Vaughan

Daniel Scott Vaughan, age 27, passed away on July 14, 2021.

Daniel was a 2012 graduate of Islands High School. He had a love of cooking and for years was employed in numerous fine dining venues in Savannah and California.  He had a passion for music of all genres and enjoyed attending concerts, playing piano, and singing.  Most of all he loved his family.

Daniel was a member of the Order of Arrow of the Boy Scouts of America and a member of Troop 16.  He achieved his Eagle Scout rank in 2011.  His environmental project earned him a county wide proclamation.

Born October 12, 1993, Daniel was a member of Isle of Hope United Methodist Church.  Raised to know and love God, Daniel was surrounded by friends and family who loved him and loved the Lord.  He was a member of Emmaus and Chrysalis Communities.

Since Daniel’s death, many have written and spoken about how special he was and how fortunate they were to have known him.  They note his shy smile and the warmth, depth, and intelligence behind it.  Daniel had piercing good looks – tall, dark, and handsome, and on the inside a sensitivity, humility, and compassion for all.  He had an intense knowledge of matters close to his heart.  Daniel cared about people in the purest of ways.  He loved them for who they were and asked nothing in return.  No matter the situation, he was always a gentleman.  Most of all, they remember the sheer pleasure of his company; how free they were to be themselves around him and how much they will miss him.

Daniel is no longer in pain and finally at peace.  He is set free, smiling and strong, waiting for the day he can reunite with his loved ones.

He is survived by his parents, Sallie and Scott Vaughan; a brother, William Vaughan; and beloved uncles, aunts, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Betty and Oscar Crosby, and paternal grandparents, Lillian and Ollie Vaughan.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 26, 2021 at Isle of Hope United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, gifts can be given in his memory to Isle of Hope United Methodist Church, 412 Parkersburg Rd., Savannah, GA 31406 and To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA), P.O. Box 2203, Melbourne, FL  32902 or twloha.com/donate.

Scott, Sallie, William, and family- There are no words, yet you know me better than that. I find great comfort in words. It has been a joy and honor to journey this life together with your family the past 21 years. I had the privilege to know Daniel from a very young boy to adulthood and he was amazing! My first memory is on the playground at Lake Mayer and instead of climbing the monkey bars, he was reading. He was so incredibly smart and could read way beyond his grade level. I was secretly jealous that my boys did not have that affinity with books. He was quiet and demur, a very wise soul even at a young age. What wonderful memories I have of birthdays, Halloweens, Thanksgivings, and Christmas’ spent together. From the sidelines, I watched him grow and mature, cheering him on in silent support. We celebrated the close of 5th and 2nd grades at Tybee catching ghost crabs and burying the boys in the sand. I know now that these were celebrated occasions, but it is the ordinary days, the ones no one thought to photograph, that will be missed the most. I smile when I think of the cub scout campouts we went on and how enamored the boys were with the glow of the campfire ( and throwing things in it) to full fledge boy scout trips with nights spent alone in the woods with only an egg and a bottle of water. Jerry was touched to be chosen as Daniel’s confirmation mentor when he was 12 and stood dutifully at his side when he accepted Jesus as his Savior. I’ll never forget his Eagle scout ceremony; I was filled with pride and happiness, as if he were my own. Please know I do think of him as one of mine, I loved him fiercely and cared so much for his well being. Daniel had a solid handshake, looked you in the eye, and “sir and ma’am” rolled effortlessly off his tongue. He was the epitome of a true Southern gentleman. He had a guileless smile and a quick wit, not withstanding the impish sparkle in those beautiful brown eyes; eyes that looked like pools of rich chocolate. He did not grace us with a smile often, but when he did his whole body lit up like fireworks in the night sky. Daniel was a mysterious, captivating soul whom many knew, but few were lucky enough to be kindred spirits with. His compassion for 4 legged creatures, creative culinary dishes, anime, and music spoke volumes for the talented, caring, introspective young man he was. He was a free spirit unable to be harnessed and this was what made Daniel, Daniel. Please know, you are amazing parents. I was fortunate to see first hand how you loved your children with wild abandon, enjoyed them, taught them, and were always their biggest fans. There was nothing you wouldn’t and didn’t do for them. Daniel loved honestly and deeply and you were blessed to be the pinnacle of his purest love. I know when you say you love him, you love him so much more than that. I cannot begin to express how so very sorry I am and my heart breaks not just for losing him but because your hearts are broken. I understand life will never be the same-there will always be a before and an after. Please know I was your friend before and I will be there for you for all the afters. I love you Ali, Jerry, Christopher, and Andrew Benson
