Kathryn C. Hill (Ms. Kitty Hill)

Kathryn C. Hill (Ms. Kitty Hill), age 90, passed quietly and continued her journey Wednesday morning on the 9th of June.

Born on the 11th of August 1930 in Ironto, Virginia, Ms. Kitty was the daughter of the late Margaret See Cupp and Luther Jackson Cupp.   Raised in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia, Ms. Kitty attended the one room schoolhouse in Ironto before moving to Narrows, Virginia.   Upon graduating from Narrows High School, she attended Richmond Polytechnical Institute, now Virginia Commonwealth and received her BA as a vocalist in music.

Ms. Kitty, came to Bainbridge Street Baptist Church as an alto singer for the professional quartet in September 1954. Kitty took over the direction of the chapel choir in September 1961 and joined the membership of the church in December 1961.

Ms. Kitty joined Saint Thomas Episcopal family on the Isle of Hope upon moving to Savannah in January 1975 and became their choir director that year.

Music is said to be the speech of angels, and Ms. Kitty has been responsible for creating many great ‘angelic speeches under her direction of the choirs she was blessed to serve, Bainbridge Street, Southampton Baptist Church in Richmond and Saint Thomas Episcopal Church in Savannah. Miss Kitty thankfully discharged her test with great love and devotion, above and beyond that of mere monetary gain, and thereby helping to bring about the advancement of the kingdom of God in a truly glorious way.

The love and beauty, given to us by Ms. Kitty to her music will never be forgotten to those who knew her. May the bright and beautiful lights from heaven which Ms. Kitty illuminated reflect upon her personal dedication and service to the Lord never be never forgotten.

Ms. Kitty was an active member of the Richmond Choral Society and the Savannah Choral Society as a trained Alto Vocalist.

Ms. Kitty dedicated her life her music and to the Lord.  Her beautiful song to the world will be missed.

Our thoughts are with Rob, Dave, Mike and families as you celebrate Kitty's homecoming but mourn her passing from our midst. I can still hear her shushing the bass section, see her smiling as she directed. She even sang at our wedding. Welcome to the heavenly choir, dear lady!
