Celebrating the life of

Charles (Chuck) Thomas Schauss

March 16, 1943 - June 09, 2021

Charles (Chuck) Thomas Schauss

Charles Thomas Schauss, 78, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at the Augusta University Medical Center.

Chuck was originally from Flushing, New York. After graduating from the Pennsylvania Military College in 1965, he was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Infantry. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam, one with the 196th Light Infantry Brigade and the second as a combat advisor with South Vietnamese Regional Forces.

After leaving the Army, Chuck and his family settled in Savannah where he was a long time employee of Union Camp, and later, a business/logistics consultant. Chuck volunteered with the American Red Cross and found great pride in supporting troops deploying from Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield.

Chuck was a member of the Catholic faith and supporter of Nativity of Our Lord and St. Peter the Apostle parishes, St. Vincent’s Academy, and Benedictine Military School.

Chuck is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Schauss; and sister Judith Ellen.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janet; children, Elizabeth (Wesley) and Michael (Christina); and his beloved grandsons, Anthony and Roman.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m.

In Chuck’s memory, gifts may be made to the Southeast Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross, 41 Park of Commerce Way, Building #200, Suite A, Savannah, GA 31405 or a charity of your choice.
