JEAN ALEX LARAQUE, son of Isabelle Élizée Laraque and Colonel Alexandre Laraque, was born in Haiti.  While he was a poet at heart, he enjoyed sports, particularly boxing and soccer. Missing a World Cup  championship on TV was an absolute “No no” for him. Jean Alex had a real passion for music: he grew  up listening to French classics, but of course, as a true Haitian, he loved his “compa” music. Salsa music  was another of his favourites as well. In other words, music was food to his soul… a good soul as he was  known for his kindness and generosity. He loved his entire family dearly and was always eager to lend a helping hand. Some would affectionately refer to him as Tonton Nwèl (Santa Klaus). He was also  generous of heart. But when it comes to real food “Mayi ak lambi” (conch and cornmeal) was among his favorites. As he entered into his late teenage years, he moved to Canada before immigrating to the United States.  There, he worked for the NYC Transit in Queens, New York until he retired in 2006. Then, he moved  to Savannah, Georgia with his wife Lynette and his stepchildren. On Thursday, April 29th, 2021, Jean Alex  responded to his Lord’s call and passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving wife at his residence in Georgia. IN ADDITION TO HIS WIFE LYNETTE, Jean Alex is survived by HIS CHILDREN, Patrice, Ralph, Isabelle, Rodrigue, Jean-Alex Jr, Omar LARAQUE; STEPCHILDREN, Navin, Gary, Steven and Mandira HARDIAL; GRANDCHILDREN, Mikahil, Kharia, Chassity, Caolinn, Rodrigue,Jr, Jean-Prince, Fabien, Frederique  Isabelle, Amira and Omar,Jr LARAQUE; SISTER, Marie-Alix LARAQUE; AS WELL AS his very close cousins from the ÉLIZÉE, LUCAS, LULLY, LARAQUE, HARRIGAN families.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, May 6th 2021, at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. A Visitation will be held for one hour prior to service.

Our condolences, prayers and love goes out to the family of Alex Laraque. He was not only a father figure to my siblings and I , he was a friend , caregiver , a true gentleman , one who gives for your happiness , unselfishly! You would be truly missed... He loved football / soccer , even though we both agreed its called football.. I will miss the wakeup calls on vacation , " Navin the game is going to start ! " I would jump out of bed!! He loved taking us to Dillards for shopping, he would alway say to me " the shirts are 100% cotton , cotton keeps you cool ! "... He got me checking labels now... We all will miss his voice , cool demeanor, kindness! I guess God misses him too! One lesson i would always remember from him , as he got his driver's license later on in life( i dont have mine as yet) is " you are never too old to learn something new !" Always teaching , always inspiring , will be missed always ! Until the next time we chill for a football game! Watch over us ! Sleep in peace!
