Celebrating the life of

Mary Alice Holcombe

February 18, 1947 - April 20, 2021

Mary Alice Holcombe

Mary Alice Holcombe passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 20, 2021.

Mrs. Holcombe was born on February 18, 1947 in Jasper, AL. From an early age she worked to help the family building supply business. At age 12, she was already driving the company’s truck to make deliveries around town. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1965 and attended the University of Alabama where she graduated early with a degree in Home Economics. While there, she met ROTC and Golf Team member David Holcombe, who would become her husband of nearly 52 years.

David was an Air Force officer and Mary Alice helped support him and their growing family throughout his 20-year career. After raising two children to school age, Mary Alice resumed her own career in real estate while the family was stationed in Florida and then California. Upon David’s retirement in 1988, the family relocated to the Atlanta area to be closer to family.  She successfully continued her real estate appraisal business until her retirement in 2005.  With the new-found freedom of retirement, the couple chose to relocate to The Landings in Savannah, Georgia to enjoy its amenities and, again, be closer to family.

She is survived by her husband, David Holcombe, as well as two children, David Holcombe, Jr. (Rhonda) and Mary Jane McGowan (Wayne).  She was also a loving and devoted Grammie to Will and Andrew McGowan.  She was preceded in death by her parents, William Taft and Jane Tidwell and her sister, Betty Robinson.

Funeral services for Mrs. Holcombe will be private.
