Celebrating the life of

Charles S. Embrey

Passed away on April 17, 2021

Charles S. Embrey

Charles Steele Embrey (Charlie), 91 years, passed away Saturday April 17, 2021 due to natural causes. He was born March 20, 1930 in Atlanta, GA and grew up in Savannah. He graduated from Savannah High and earned an Associate's degree in Business from Armstrong College following service in the U.S. Marine Corps. Charles valued his military service and enjoyed annual reunions with surviving members of D Company, 10th Infantry Battalion, USMC. The monument to D Company in Emmet Park gave him a deep sense of pride.

He was district manager for W.T. Grant company for many years, after which he retired home to Savannah, where he engaged in numerous entrepreneurial endeavors and proudly served the City of Savannah as Senior Building Inspector before retiring.

Charles is survived by five daughters: Linda Smith (Gary), Sharon Weeks (Steve), Charlene Burns, Vickie Conneff (Larry), and Trina Embrey. He has seven grandchildren — Scott Weeks, Tom Burns, Stacy Dixon (Dave), Lawrence Conneff, Margaret Conneff, Andrew Conneff (Megan), Rachel Nitiprawoto (Phian) and Steele Tankersley, and one great grandchild, Weeks Dixon.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Jacqueline Sharpe Embrey.

His family and friends have learned much from Charlie over the years; he was inventive, creative, curious, resourceful, practical and blessed with a witty sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was one of a kind in heart, mind and spirit.

Charlie Embrey and my husband were great friends who understood each other. It was our privilege to have him as our family friend. He was, indeed, one of a kind, so intelligent, and a very, very funny man, with a wry sense of humor. He could make you laugh even when challenging some decisions. It was always so much fun to be in his company. He was so proud of his family, and he left a great legacy. My sincere condolences to all his family. Linda Geriner
