Celebrating the life of

Michael Angelo Finocchiaro, Jr.

August 27, 1959 - April 06, 2021

Mike will never be forgotten!

Michael Angelo Finocchiaro, Jr.

Michael A. Finocchiaro, Jr., 61, passed away sadly and suddenly on April 6, 2021, after giving his friends their weekly racquetball lesson at the YMCA.

Mike Was born and raised in Savannah. He attended St. James Catholic Church and parochial school, and graduated from Benedictine Military Academy in 1977. His early employment included Yates Astro and Thompson's Sporting Goods, and for the past twenty years was Facilities Manager for Forum Management as the building superintendent for the DFACS building at 761 Wheaton Street. Mike was a true Savannahian through and through. There is nowhere else Mike could have lived. He was an avid fisherman, loved the salt water, the beach, camping and all things boating. He knew every Inch of Tybee and most of its inhabitants. He loved his Harley, and took many trips throughout Florida, especially Daytona Beach and the Florida Keys.

Mike could build or fix anything and everything, and he never said no to friends and family that needed his help. He was the perfect example of a "cheerful giver", whether helping his cousin Beth untangle a riddle or driving his mom to an appointment, he was always there and happy to help. Mike was a prefect son, and he adored and took care of his mom.

Of all Mike's passions, his greatest love was his wife, Belinda. God sent Belinda to Mike and they fit together like two peas in a pod. The time they had was beautiful but was cut way too short.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Michael Angelo Flnocchiaro, Sr., and his first wife, Patricia DeVector Finocchiaro.

He is survived by his wife, Belinda Polk Finocchiaro; mother, Mary Cathryn Finocchiaro; son, Marcus Kaley; daughter, Angela Kaley; grandchildren, Lauren, Skyler and Cruz; Sisters-in-law, Rachel Traub (Eric) and Sherry Davis (Randy), Aunts, Regina  Nelson and Mary F. Finocchiaro; and first cousins, Elizabeth Wolfe (Danny), Tom Finocchiaro (Melanie), Michael D. Finocchiaro (Pam), Mary Sweeney (Neal) and Ann Larossa.

Mike leaves behind to cherish his memory countless "best" friends, relatives and co-workers. Mike will never be forgotten!

So many years as friends with the Polk Family and extended family members. I know God paired Mike and Belinda together because he knew each had special qualities that would bond them for life...they were bonded! God gives us a special person and then for some reason, only God knows, they are gone home to Heaven in a flash. I always think God had other special needs in Heaven for our loved one’s who are taken way to soon. Belinda, I do know how you feel, the broken heart that you think will take forever to heal, it almost does, but during that healing time you will experience the most wonderful memories of Mike and you together, some you have even forgotten about. Belinda, please know that my heart, thoughts and prayers are with you. God Bless you and may He give you the strength you need so desperately at this time. I love you as I always have!

Belinda, I am sorry for your loss. Mike’s love for you was apparent when he spoke of you and about your trips together. As lifetime Savannahians, Mike and I grew up within 2 miles of each other but we never met until we started playing racquetball at the Island’s Y. For close to 20 years we competed against each other or as teammates. Between games we learned we both enjoyed fishing. With our similar sense of humor, we often shared with each other our list of favorite comedians. I could not remember the jokes but Mike could quote them word for word. Whenever I had trouble with the boat motor or lawnmower or some other mechanical problem would arise, Mike would help me understand how to fix it and give me the confidence to tackle it myself. Tuesday and Thursday night racquetball will not be the same without Mike on the court or talking with him while sitting in his corner seat between games.

I just ran across this sad news and I wish to share my sincerest respects with Mike's family. I was divorced, alone and broke when I met Tricia and Mike in the late 90's. He shared his catch of Spanish Mackerel with me many times as well as taught this mountain girl how to prepare it. He fussed when I parked in his spot on Daffin Drive and he and Trish insisted I attend Mass with the family at Christmas and Easter. Mike was a good man. His loss stings even this far away after this long. Good people leave a mark. God Bless you all.
