Elizabeth Gaines Schroder

Elizabeth Gaines Schroder, 92, also known as Betty, passed away on February 10, 2021, in Savannah. She was a Savannah native born April 18th, 1928, and was the daughter of Noona Tanner Gaines and Ezekiel Baldwin Gaines of Savannah. She attended Savannah High School and the University of Georgia Extension, Savannah.  Elizabeth married her husband Oliver in 1954, at St. John’s Episcopal Church. Together, they were members of the Savannah Yacht Club and the Cotillion Club of Savannah. Elizabeth worked as a parttime secretary at Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church, was a volunteer Pink Lady at St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital and was recognized with a 25 Year Volunteer Achievement Award.  She enjoyed her docent work at the historic Isaiah Davenport House and attended many Republican Women’s Luncheons throughout the years. 

Elizabeth was proceeded in death by her husband, Oliver Bacon Schroder, Sr. of Savannah. She is survived by her brother, Walter Edward Gaines of Savannah, her daughter, Elizabeth Schroder Samoluk, of Atlanta, her son, Oliver Bacon Schroder, Jr. and her grandson, Zachary Ian Schroder, of Savannah.

In addition, many nieces and nephews, including, Grace Gaines Gattis, Courtney Gaines Fetz, of Savannah and Ezekiel (Zeke) Baldwin Gaines, III, of Richmond Hill.  Also, Aage George Schroder III and Christopher Bacon Schroder of Florida and Leighton McRae Schroder of Atlanta, along with many grand and great nieces and nephews.
