Joan Daniel Pinholster

Mrs. Joan Daniel Pinholster, 84, died peacefully in her sleep, Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Harmony of Savannah.  She was born July 24, 1936 in Savannah where she spent most of her life, growing up on 52nd Street, and in her adult life on Back Street at Coffee Bluff.

Joan worked as a model for Fines Department Store.  She was passionate about the value of civic duty and had volunteered as a Pink Lady at St. Joseph’s Hospital, The Red Cross, and Meals on Wheels, Inc.  She was a former member of Kappa Kappa Gamma at the University of Georgia, the Junior League of Savannah, and the Cotillion Club. Joan loved her pet dogs as true members of her family.  She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  She will be greatly missed by all.   

She is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 63 years John H. Pinholster, Jr, her parents, Dr. John W. Daniel, and Nancy Chisholm Daniel, two sisters, Nancy Stegin and Kitty Roberts, and her grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Julian Chisholm. 

Surviving are her sons, John Holmes Pinholster III (Allison), Scott Levering Pinholster (Cindy), and daughter Sandy Pinholster McDonald (Tom), her four grandchildren, Rebecca Pinholster Ashley (Stephen), John Holmes Pinholster, IV, Tommy F. McDonald III, Grayson Daniel Ward Pinholster, and two great-grandchildren, Ethan Scott Ashley, and Ellie Claire Ashley.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, February 5, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in Bonaventure Cemetery, officiated by Reverend Dr. James Staubes.

Remembrances may be made to, Meals on Wheels, 21 E. 53rd Street, Savannah, GA 31405, and the Alzheimer’s Association (ALZ.org), 4849 Paulson Street, Ste 103, Savannah, GA 31405.
