Celebrating the life of

Barbara Armstrong Church

Passed away on January 28, 2021

Barbara Armstrong Church

Barbara Ann Armstrong Church, 98, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2021 at The Oaks at The Marshes of Skidaway Island.  She was born May 8, 1922 in Chicago, IL, where she called home for many years prior to moving to Savannah.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Fred Church.  She and Fred were full time residents of The Landings on Skidaway Island since 1996.  She was a member of Skidaway Island United Methodist Church, the P.E.O. and the Telfair Museum.

She is survived by a brother-in-law, several nieces and one nephew.

Her urn will be placed next to her husband’s.  An interment service will be scheduled at a later date to be held at the Skidaway Island United Methodist Church Memorial Garden.

Barbara will be missed by all who knew her.  She was recently described by a close friend as “being a Grand Dame”.  Barbara will be remembered for her love of the fine arts especially of classical music and fine art, her generosity, her strong opinions, and her feisty personality.

We would like to thank the staff at the Oaks, which is part of the Marshes retirement complex on Skidaway Island.  Barbara was a resident at the Oaks for over two years and she always knew she was well looked after from people who cared.

If making a donation in her memory, please consider The Savannah Music Festival, The Savannah Philharmonic and The Humane Society for Greater Savannah
