Celebrating the life of

Lorraine V. Warlick

Passed away on January 22, 2021

Lorraine V. Warlick

Lorraine V. Warlick, age 93, of Grand Rapids, MI, passed away January 22, 2021, with her daughters by her side. She was born in Grand Rapids in 1927, to the late John and Cora Vanden Bout. She was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids, MI.  In 1973, Lorraine married her true love Roger Warlick and moved to Savannah, GA, where they worked together tirelessly for Savannah's historic preservation and for the Armstrong Atlantic State University community where Roger taught. Lorraine and Roger were devoted to supporting causes related to their love for history, education, the arts, and the beauty of Savannah. To that end, Lorraine volunteered as a docent at the Harper Fowlkes House historic museum. She also quietly volunteered for the Emmaus House Soup Kitchen for many years.

Lorraine will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was a mother figure to many friends, young and not so young, with whom she freely shared her love and affection. Lorraine took great joy in the beauty of the world around her and excelled at helping others experience that same joy. She modeled unconditional love, hospitality and generosity to family, friends, and strangers. Lorraine's love and joy were contagious!

Lorraine is survived by her brother, Kenneth Vanden Bout and his wife, Susan, sister,  Marilyn VanHassle and her husband, Herb, daughter, Elizabeth Holwerda Bass and husband Kevin Bass of Warner Robins, GA; daughter Kathryn Warlick Doubrley and husband Jack Doubrley of Crawford, GA; daughter Sarah Warlick of Atlanta, GA; daughter Amy Warlick Smith of Decatur, GA; daughter-in-law Mary Holwerda of Grand Rapids, MI; sons-in-law Steve Simpson of Georgetown, GA, Callaway Dorsey of Tucker, GA, and George Marshall, Alameda, CA; grandson Matthew Dalgarn of Graham, NC; grandchildren Lindsey and Cameron Bass of Warner Robins, GA, and Evan Bass of Savannah, GA; grandchildren Jessie and Nicole Holwerda of Grand Rapids, MI; grandchildren Corin Warlick, Isaac Marshall, and Roger Warlick of Atlanta, GA; and great-grandchildren Zachary Dalgarn, Lilly Dalgarn and Aiden Apple. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Roger K. Warlick; son David J. Holwerda; and daughters Andrea Holwerda Simpson and Dawn Warlick Dorsey.

A graveside service will be held at Greenwich Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia at 2:00 p.m. on February 5, 2021.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of the causes that meant so much to Lorraine – Hermitage at Diamond (hermitage-at-diamond.org); Georgia Historical Society (georgiahistory.com); or Zuni Christian Mission School (zunisharpschool.net).

I am so sorry for your loss. Lorraine and my mother were very close. My mother thought the world of Lorraine. She was so kind to me. Both of my children were baptized in a gown your Lorraine gave to me.
