Celebrating the life of

Gary Lee Boughner

June 18, 1969 - January 19, 2021

Gary Lee Boughner

Gary Lee Boughner of Wilmington Island, Georgia passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 after a short battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loved ones at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Georgia.  Gary Lee Boughner was the last of 11 children born to the late Donald Jackie “Jack” Boughner and Donna Boughner on June 18, 1969 in Port Huron Michigan.

Gary, as everyone who knew him knew he was the “Host with the most”! He was never short with words or humor. The most remarkable thing about Gary was his passion for knowledge of the law. This is what drove him daily. Once he realized he wanted to be a civil rights attorney he set forth on an accelerated path to accomplish his goal. Gary was a superb student and there was no shame in his game. He regularly shared his exceptional grades with his closest friends and family and awaited the responding accolades. He nearly completed his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with emphasis in Law.

Gary’s favorite phrase was “Lawyer up a**hole”! In his spare time, he enjoyed cruising on his Honda Goldwing motorcycle with the love of his life, Melissa. Friends have expressed how they will miss “…listening to Prince music and bonfire gatherings discussing civil rights advocacy.

Gary was preceded in death by sisters Linda Ellis and Jacqueline Boughner. He is survived by his son Christopher Boughner; loving, devoted fiancé, Melissa Badley; sisters Bonnie Kornegay; Kathleen Malone; Brenda Gunter; Cheryl Small (Adison); Mari Cornwell (Jeffrey) and Kimberly Coburn; brothers Mark Boughner and Bryan Thibodeau; 10 nephews, 5 nieces, 11 great-nephews, 15 great-nieces, one great, great niece and a host of other family and friends.

A memorial service may be held at a later date.

In Gary’s memory, donations can be made to www.innocenceproject.org

I had the pleasure of working alongside Boughner many times out at Ogelthorpe Mall under Andy Frain. That man loved life and everyone that shared it with him. May he rest well and maybe some day, I'll see him again.
