Celebrating the life of

Hillis Carroll Stivers

February 08, 1941 - November 01, 2020

Hillis Carroll Stivers

After short battle with dementia, Hillis C. Stivers passed away in his sleep on November 2, 2020.
Hillis was born in Eminence KY in 1941 to Owen and Geneva Stivers. He was the third child of 7.  At the young age of 17 he decided to enlisted in the US Army.  He dedicated 21 years of service to his country.  After serving two tours in Vietnam he returned and quickly rose to the rank of Command Sargent Major (CSM E9) before retiring in 1978.  His exemplary service was recognized across the spans of his two decade career with numerous honors and accommodations.
After retiring from the Army Hillis worked in the transportation field managing trucking companies.  He was well respected by his drivers and customers due to his strong work ethic and passion.

Despite a career filled with awards and acknowledgments, nothing exceeded the pride he felt in his grandson following in his footsteps by electing a career in the US army.  Hillis was known for his toughness and stubbornness but most of all his kindness and love he had for his grandchildren.  He was a loving husband, father and brother.

Hillis is survived by his wife, Janice Stivers; his daughter, Deborah Strickland; and his son, Russell Stivers.  He is also survived by his two brothers,Jim and Kenny Stivers; and a sister, Shirley Clark; Hillis was an amazing grandfather and great-grandfather, Papa to his grandchildren, Spc Justin Long, Riley Long (great-granddaughter), Sophia Strickland, Clarissa, Cassandra, Russell, and Chelsea Stivers.

He will be missed but his time and life will always be remembered in the hearts of family and friends.
