Martha Graham Poole

Martha Graham Poole, 83, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2020.
The Tuscaloosa, AL native was born on March 4, 1937 to the late Robert and Sarah Graham. Martha graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in elementary education. After graduation, Martha taught school in Sylacauga, AL and later in Fort Benning, GA. In 1962, Martha traveled to Schweinfurt, Germany where she taught in the Army Dependent School System; she then moved to New Orleans, LA where she taught at Sam Barth Private School for Boys. While in New Orleans, Martha was reunited with her future husband, Captain Buddy J. Poole whom she had met in Germany. They were married in San Francisco on October 18, 1965, the day after he returned from Vietnam. A wedding reception was organized by their friends from Germany. Martha was a good Army wife who made her home at many Army bases including, Fort Benning, GA; Lawrence KS, where her husband was an R.O.T.C. instructor at the University of Kansas; Fort Riley, KS; Pattaya Beach, Thailand; and Fort Stewart, GA where they settled and purchased a home in Savannah where they have lived since 1975. Martha was a former tour guide for the Historic Savannah Foundation and Kelly Tours, where she worked for many years. Martha was a member of Savannah Garden Club.
In addition to her husband of 55 years, LTC Buddy J. Poole, Martha is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bradley and Marica Poole of Kingsland, GA.

We had the pleasure of spending time with Martha and Buddy in Savannah a few years ago. Such wonderful people, and we enjoyed every minute. We've kept them both in our hearts since then. Martha will truly be missed. Our Love and Condolences to Buddy and the family.
