David Anthony Bertaux

April 03, 1964 - September 02, 2020

David Anthony Bertaux

David Anthony Bertaux, 56, died Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Georgia.

Born April 3, 1964 in Morgantown, WV, David is survived by his wife Lachlan (Ivy) Bertaux of Savannah, GA; sons Anthony Joseph Bertaux of Raleigh, NC, and Nicholas James Bertaux of Morrisville, NC; parents JoAnn Fredrick Bertaux of Morgantown, WV, and David Joseph Bertaux and wife Janice of Sebring, FL; brothers, Mike Bertaux and wife Kim of Apex, NC, Brian Bertaux of Winchester, VA, and John Bertaux of Keller, TX; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews whom he loved deeply.

David was a 1982 graduate of Fort Hill High School in Cumberland, MD. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1986 from Frostburg State University in Frostburg, MD, and his master’s degree from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, in 1992. David had a lifelong passion for business and an entrepreneurial spirit, which led him to establish and operate a number of diverse small businesses. He also spent some of his business career as an investment advisor.

David’s love of life and people allowed him to touch all those around him. His bright blue eyes, infectious smile, and charitable heart attracted anyone who crossed his path. His passion for uplifting others was exhibited in everything that he did. If you met him once or knew him for years you could never forget his beautiful soul.

David spent much of his adult life in Apex, NC, where he and his first wife, Karen (Hinkle) Waggener, raised their sons. While in Apex, he was a parishioner at Saint Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, where he served as a lector and taught Teen Youth Ministry. David spent many years and obtained great joy in coaching his sons’ youth sports teams, specifically basketball and soccer. In addition to the dedication to his church and youth sports, he was an active member of the Knightdale Lion’s Club where he participated in many of their charitable events. He never missed an opportunity to help others and many were blessed by his giving heart.

A funeral mass will be held Friday, September 11, 2020, at 11:00 AM at Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Apex, NC, with interment of ashes immediately following at Saint Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Apex, NC, where he will rest eternally. Family and friends will be received immediately following the interment of ashes at MacGregor Downs Country Club, Cary, NC.

Memorial donations can be made in remembrance of David to a charity of your choice that you feel embodies David’s vibrant spirit. Or, simply honor David by gathering with friends and family, turning up the music, laughing and having fun with those you love.

When you lose someone with whom you love with every fiber and ounce of your being..... you must “not” just learn to live without them, but to live with the love they left behind. May God grant his wife, sons, family and friends HIS peace during this time and replace the immeasurable grief with treasured memories shared.

- Isabelle (Toni) Saylor, Emmitsburg, MD

I have known David since Jr High in Cumberland MD. He had those beautiful blue eyes and the infectious smile. Then I met the rest of the Bel Air Crew!! I have never come across in the many places I’ve lived a group of people who are still friends like we are and David was at that core. It is just the wonderful, great guy he was. Everyone who met David loved him. I was so shocked to hear the news and felt so honored to be in the constant loop of his progress as his group prayed and hoped as we got the updates. I’m still in shock. My heart goes out to all of you. Anthony and Nick my deepest condolences. He was so very proud of you both. Lachlan I’m so very sorry for the loss of your husband so very soon. I cannot imagine your pain. May God grant you peace in the coming days and the memories to help you in this difficult time. David will always be in my heart and I’ll hear him singing any Journey or Van Halen song!!

- Chrissie (Grove) Kallio, Apex, NC
