Celebrating the life of

Jon "J.T." Herbert Taylor

Passed away on July 03, 2020

Jon

Jon “J.T.” Herbert Taylor died at Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

He leaves behind his wife, Gina Elizabeth Taylor and two beautiful daughters, Madison and Zayne. He is also survived by his mother, Audilee Taylor, siblings Julia, Jed (Lilann) and Jessica (Paul), nieces Callie, Liz, Kate and Morgan and nephews Hunter, Mac and Jake. He is preceded in death by his father, Herbert Lee Taylor.

A good friend who inspired tattoos on many, Jon never knew a stranger. He was widely known as the life of the party and Tybee mourned his loss over the 4th of July weekend.

He grew up on Walthour Road playing with the heavy machinery from his father’s contracting business, able to operate backhoes and excavators as early as 8 years old. It was a natural progression for Jon to join the family business and then expand into his own construction company, Jon H. Taylor Contracting, building beautiful bridges across the golf courses of Florida. In his 50’s, he returned to his early life dream of becoming a bartender, working at a popular Tybee spot, developing relationships with patrons that appreciated his ribald sense of humor and his heavy-handed pours.

One of Jon’s greatest pleasures was riding his cobalt-blue Harley Davidson Rocker C, fully feeling free with the speed of a well-made engine. Over the years, he owned a classic Chevrolet Nova, a cherry red Chevrolet Camaro and a gold Trans Am with many a drag race win. His tool collection would rival a mechanic.

Jon’s considerable height and often menacing demeanor hid a heart of gold. He gave without measure to his friends. His greatest wish was never to be forgotten.

A memorial service for friends will be held at Hucapoo’s, Tybee Island on Wednesday, July 8 at 10:00 a.m. The family will hold a private celebration at a later date.

Our thoughts and prayers have been with JT’s family, especially his beautiful daughters since I heard the news! JT was a friend that became family over the many years we knew him! When we left Tybee to get my treatment, JT always kept in touch checking on me and then I did the same during his battle but I grieve hardest because of the guilt I feel for not being there and then him passing! I just can’t put into words just how much JT meant to us but I pray that thru his friends, his girls will know just how very much their father loved them!! Will all he had in him! There arent words to express my sorrow & condolences. Mrs. H Taylor, you raised a fine son who was dear to me in many ways, loved people who might not have been able to love him back but he was not the type of person to worry over lack of love. Family was his thing always, having fun & being himself. To the rest of his family: wife & kids, I know there are no words to help now because that chunk doesnt leave ever. But in the future, we only need to know he died as free as he chose to be. I'll miss him much.

- KIM D Fergerson, Savannah, GA

My deepest sympathy, and prayers are going out to all of Jon's family, and loved ones. He spoke of each one of you with such love, and happy memories, and just lit up when he shared the recent picture with his siblings. Gina, Madison, and Zane.. As you know.. He loved you all immensely. When he talked about you, his eyes grew brighter, his smile bigger, and you could feel how he adored you all. It just radiated from him. It was a beautiful thing to see. Thank you Jon, for a friendship that I will always cherish. You always knew how to bring out a smile in everyone you met. Potential enemies became your friend. Whether they wanted to or not. You fully loved as well as lived your life.. Extra. Until we all see you again Jon..

I will miss talking hockey with and hearing his voice from my porch. I served in the Royal Canadian Navy for 30 years and thought I’d heard, seen, or done everything.
